Real Marina Residence

These apartments are situated in two five-story modern gray buildings with balconies across the facade. The Algarve isn't exactly famous for its modern vacation apartments, so this complex is a nice step up from what's on offer in many of the region's other tourist towns. Guests check in next door at the sister property, Real Marina Hotel & Spa, which is where the bulk of the features are located (though they aren't free to use for Residence guests). As this part of the complex is only meant for self-catering guests, there aren't really any common areas of which to speak, aside from two small pools. The atmosphere is relaxed and laid-back, attracting a mix of self-sufficient couples and families, as well as some groups. 

This modern apartment-style hotel is situated near the center of Olhao, overlooking the marina. Guests can easily walk to the marina to catch a boat to the islands of Culatra and Farol, the closest beaches. It's close to the Olhao Market, as well as numerous restaurants, snack bars, cafes, and shops (all within a five- to 10-minute walk). A supermarket can be reached in five to 10 minutes on foot as well, and in summer there's a seafood festival next to the marketplace. Guests also can walk along the Ria Formosa Natural Park, one of the 7 Natural Wonders of Portugal, worth seeing for its natural beauty. Faro Airport is about 15 minutes away by car, and Faro's old town is a little closer. Those who are arriving and departing from Lisbon should expect a two-and-a-half-hour drive.

All rooms here are apartments, which offer one, two, or three bedrooms and fully equipped kitchens. Decor is modern and simple, with wood floors, soft neutral color schemes, clean-lined wood furniture, and mostly white walls with contemporary artwork and black-and-gray floral accent walls behind the beds. Kitchens are equipped with cook tops, ovens, microwaves, coffeemakers, toasters, sinks, dishwashers, and refrigerators. Dishes, cutlery, and cookware also are supplied. The living and dining area is open and has a sofa bed and dining table and chairs. Balconies are furnished with an additional dining table and chairs for alfresco dining with side views of the lagoon. Amenities include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and safes. Two- and three-bedroom apartments each have two bathrooms. Although small, the bathrooms are lovely, with aqua-colored sinks and tiling, plus tub/shower combos. Toiletries are provided in large eco-friendly containers. 

This hotel doesn't have much in the way of its own features, but guests can use those next door at the Real Marina Hotel & Spa for a fee. Each block of eight apartments here has its own small rooftop pool with lovely views of the lagoon. Lounge chairs are available, but umbrellas are not always provided. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
