Bottom Line

The three-pearl Vitor’s Plaza is far more modern than most self-sufficient apartment-style hotels. With a recent renovation in 2017 to public spaces and the 74 one- and two-bedroom apartments, there’s a contemporary and subtle sea-themed design and kitchenettes. A free shuttle brings guests to Praia de Rocha beach and Portimao. Fortunately, there’s plenty to do on-site, from enjoying indoor and outdoor pool areas to grabbing a bite at the restaurant for breakfast (for a fee) or dinner when guests don’t feel like cooking in their apartment kitchenettes. Note that housekeeping and towel services are limited.

Vitor’s Plaza

Scene

Modern hotel with a stylish design and a clientele of mostly families

Vitor’s Plaza attracts families who are willing to look past the hotel’s location away from beaches and city centers in favor of spacious and self-sufficient apartments units. With a 2017 update in the rooms, lobby, and restaurant areas (not featured in our photographs), the hotel has modern and polished interiors to match the manicured grounds filled with charming palm trees and plants. The lobby features white glossy floors with cream and gray trendy furniture. There’s a similar posh design to the restaurant which has white and turquoise high-backed chairs and stylish hanging lamps. Though the design is more modern than what's usually found at most apartment-like hotels, there are some limits to service such as with housekeeping. Take note that Vitor’s Plaza is not open year-round.

Location

12-minute drive to the beach and nine-minute drive to Portimao

Vitor’s Plaza is best suited for those who want a quiet getaway and don’t mind driving or taking cabs to places of interest in the area. The immediate area  only offers a handful of dining options within a 10-minute walk, and a golf course that takes eight minutes to reach on foot. The hotel offers a free shuttle bus ride to Praia de Rocha (12-minute ride) and Portimao (nine-minute drive) twice a day, except on holidays and Sundays. Alvor is a seven-minute drive, though robust travelers can reach it in a 32-minute walk. There are a variety of other beaches in the area that take about an eight-minute drive to reach. It takes seven minutes by car to reach the Portimao Airport.

Rooms

Sea-themed one- and two-bedroom apartments with kitchenettes and limited housekeeping

Prior to the recent room makeovers in 2017, the rooms at Vitor’s Plaza were generic and dated. Currently, the design is modern and playful in the form of sea-themed artwork on the walls (not featured yet in our photographs). The off-gray laminate wood floors complement the stylish gray couches and the white streamlined tables and chairs in the living room area. The one- and two-bedroom apartment options are spacious and offer plenty of sleeping spaces thanks to pullout couches. Free Wi-Fi, balconies, air-conditioning, and flat-screen TVs are found in all units. The kitchenettes don’t appear to have undergone the refurbishment, but they’re still in good shape and come with two-burner stoves, mini-fridges, microwaves, and coffeemakers. Bathrooms are simple with showers or shower/tub combos, along with toiletries and bidets. All rooms include hairdryers. Note that maid service is only offered five times a week, and towels are only changed twice a week. These services are more limited during off-season.

Features

Plenty of pool fun inside and outside, as well as sports activities and a single restaurant

Guests seeking outdoor fun can enjoy the hotel’s outdoor pool and children’s pool (and a pool bar in high-season), plus sports activities like mini-golf, shuffleboard, and tennis. There's also an indoor heated pool and hot tub, and an indoor game room with arcade games and ping-pong. Guests can stay fit with a modest gym with cardio and weight equipment. The restaurant serves Portuguese and international cuisine for breakfast and dinner. Breakfast costs a fee and is served as a buffet with hot dishes, fruit, cheeses, yogurt, and pastries. For those who prefer to cook in their rooms, the on-site minimart sells a variety of food items, though it’s a bit overpriced compared to grocers in the area. The hotel’s Plaza Bar provides drinks and entertainment in the evenings. Free perks include Wi-Fi and on-site parking.
