Bottom Line

The main draws of the upper-middle-range Hotel Posa Posa is its impressive outdoor spaces and lovely views of the ocean from its rooms and restaurant patio. While its 24 rooms are classic, they're not necessarily posh, and can be a disappointment for travelers expecting four-pearl accommodations, as advertised. Still, all come with flat-screen TVs, minibars, and free Wi-Fi. A restaurant, a rooftop deck with a hydromassage pool and lounge chairs, and a breakfast buffet that's included in the rates round out the features. Most hotels here are similar to one another, but travelers could consider the Hotel Palazzo Murat as an alternative -- it throws in a free boat tour, too.

Hotel Posa Posa

Scene

Cliffside hotel with a Mediterranean atmosphere that tends to draw couples

Hotel Posa Posa is contemporary, with a dash of old-fashioned Mediterranean charm. There’s a classic look to the lobby area, which has cream couches, blue armchairs, painted tiles, an antique wooden desk, and framed drawings. But it's not exactly grand, despite the antique-style furnishings. The restaurant is far lovelier, with glossy white floors, curved ceilings, and white-and-blue accents. However, it's the outdoor spaces that are the true showstoppers, as they feature large terraces with terra-cotta floors and blue accent tiles, blue loungers, tiled tables with metal chairs, and potted plants -- all fronting incredible coastal views. Though some families check into this mountainside hotel, it attracts mostly couples on romantic interludes.

Location

Cliffside location with ocean views, and just nine minutes to the beach

Hotel Posa Posa has a great location on the cliffside of Positano, just nine minutes from the beach. This romantic seaside town offers small shops, cafes, restaurants, and water activities, all within a 20-minute walk from the hotel. Amalfi is a 45-minute drive from Posa Posa and makes a nice day trip, and Pompeii is an hour's drive away. The closest bus stop is about a 10-minute walk from the hotel, and it's about a 75-minute drive to Naples Airport.

Rooms

Classic rooms with lovely Vietri tiled floors, generic artwork, and minibars

Rooms at Hotel Posa Posa range from Standard to Suites to Quadruple Rooms, but the classic decor feels a little tired, and a few upgrades would be needed to step this up to its advertised four-pearl status. Decor includes striking Vietri tiled floors, antique furniture, and brass lamps. Generic artwork in beachy or floral themes do little to brighten the space. Some rooms have ornate headboards, and others have canopy beds. Amenities include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, minibars, free Wi-Fi, and safes. They lack coffee- and tea-making facilities, and only some have sea views, balconies, or terraces. Bathrooms have pretty tiles, bidets, and showers or shower/tub combos. Hairdryers, and toiletries are provided.

Features

Rooftop deck with sea views, hydromassage pool, restaurant, basic breakfast, and free Wi-Fi

The rooftop deck is Hotel Posa Posa’s source of pride. Guests can have a drink or two and take in the sea views. There’s also a small hydromassage pool here that’s surrounded by loungers. The hotel’s restaurant has an attractive patio and serves Mediterranean-inspired meals for lunch and dinner, plus a basic breakfast buffet, which is included in the rates. But wellness facilities are lacking as there's no gym or spa. Wi-Fi is free throughout, and there’s nearby paid parking available.
