Bottom Line

The 10-room Hotel Reginella is a boutique value property located in the center of Positano close to shops, restaurants, and the beach. Rooms are simple, clean, and spacious, and some have incredible views of the town and sea from furnished balconies. Some rooms are Old-World elegant, while others look a little more basic. As a budget hotel, there are no extras aside from a free continental breakfast and a bar, but the views and location -- as well as the rates -- are hard to beat for this expensive town. Hotel Villa Bellavista, another value property, has a small pool and a restaurant, but its location is less convenient.

Hotel Reginella

Scene

Cozy, relaxed, and charming boutique hotel with throwback style

While Positano is exactly known for its value hotels, the Hotel Reginella is a happy exception to the rule. Lush greenery covers part of the stone facade of this three-story hotel, and a striped green-and-white awning tops the glass front doors. Inside, the cozy little lobby houses the front desk and a small bar off to the side. It's a bright space with lots of throwback charm, from the antique pieces set about the gray tile floor to the bright blue damask patterns. A sofa and a couple of chairs give guests somewhere to hang out, while arches and grand columns give everything an elegant finish. A curving stairway leads to upper floors, and there's a small dumbwaiter for transporting luggage (but no elevator to any floors). This hotel is a clean, affordable, and pleasant place with no frills that won't blow the budget on the expensive Amalfi Coast. It draws plenty of couples, plus a few families and groups of friends to its larger-than-average rooms.

Location

In the heart of Positano, close to shops, restaurants, and the beach

This little hotel is on the main road in the heart of Positano, the only street where cars can enter the village. It's close to shops and restaurants, and the beach and docks are about a 10-minute walk away, as is the beautiful 13th-century Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta. Across the street is the “scalinatella,” a flight of steps leading to a fantastic view of the bay, where many tourists stop to take a picture. The closest airport is Naples International, about an hour and 20 minutes away. The hotel will arrange transfers from the airport and train station for a fee.

Rooms

Clean, simple rooms, some with incredible sea views from furnished balconies

The 10 rooms here are clean and simple, with white walls, arched doorways, and lovely Mediterranean-tile floors. Many of the pricier rooms have lovely antique pieces of hardwood furniture plus ornate light fixtures and vintage details like mid-century chair-and-table sets. Other rooms are more basic, though in these rooms, additions like wood-beam ceilings do add a bit of charm. The star of the show here are the views of Positano and the sea, which are available from some rooms and are definitely worth the upgrade. Some even have a furnished balcony to really take advantage of the setting.

Small flat-screen TVs are mounted on walls, and ceiling fans supplement air-conditioning in some rooms. Other amenities include safes and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms also feature Mediterranean tile and come with hairdryers, bidets, and toiletries in eco-friendly large bottles. Quadruple Rooms are suitable for families and groups, offering a double bed and two twins, and there's also a Suite with separate bedrooms.

Features

Free breakfast, small bar in the lobby, and free Wi-Fi

As a small value hotel, there's not much in the way of features here. A continental breakfast is served daily in the cheerful breakfast room, which has a red-tile floor. There's also a small bar in the lobby, and guests can use the laptop there. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property. The hotel can help arrange everything from airport transfers to local tours and laundry services.
