Bottom Line

Luxurious and romantic, the Monastero Santa Rosa is a luxury boutique property with spectacular sea views, a high-end spa, a beautiful pool, a small outdoor gym, and fine and casual dining on-site. All rooms and suites look out onto the sea and some have spacious terraces. Although some past guests have mentioned wishing for more variety at the restaurant, the hotel overall does an excellent job of creating an enchanting experience for guests, so long as they can afford the high room rates.

Monastero Santa Rosa Hotel & Spa

Scene

Romantic and luxurious property with terraced gardens overlooking the sea

The Monastero Santa Rosa Hotel & Spa is a beautiful luxury boutique on the Amalfi Coast, and its romantic and luxurious ambiance makes it a hit with vacationing couples. The historic structure was a monastery from 1681 to 1912, and was converted into a hotel in 1924. In 2012, after years of renovations, it reached its current state. The property consists of terraces of landscaped gardens with daybeds and lounge chairs, the bottommost of which contains an infinity pool that looks out over the sea. Interior common areas are furnished with elegant antiques.

Naples is a one-hour drive from the hotel and the Pontecagnano Airport takes about 75 minutes to reach.

Rooms

Twenty elegant rooms and suites, all with spectacular sea views

There are only 20 rooms and suites at the Monastero Santa Rosa, each with a gorgeous view of the sea. Interior decor is classically elegant, with dark wood furnishings and shutters and white bedspreads accented with deep royal blues. All rooms have minibars and free Wi-Fi, and rooms with terraces are also available. Bathrooms are done up in warm beige-colored Jerusalem stone and have walk-in showers, deep soaking tubs, and separate enclosed toilet/bidet areas. Suites have separate living rooms, except for the Laurus Suite, a former refectory that's designed in the open-plan style. The finest suite in the house, the two-story Premium Owner's Suite has a bar, a curved staircase, and individually styled decor -- as well as panoramic windows in the upper level.

Features

Luxury spa, outdoor fitness room, infinity pool, and fine and casual restaurants

The beautiful spa features original old stone walls and archways dating back to the structure's days as a monastery. Features include saunas, a steam room, and massage rooms. Nail services are also available. An open-air fitness studio with a couple of ellipticals and a set of free weights allows guests to exercise in lush surroundings while taking advantage of the natural sea breeze. The infinity swimming pool is arguably one of the hotel's most stunning features, thanks largely to its position overlooking the sea. The hotel offers both fine dining in a formal indoor restaurant and more laid back al fresco meals on the terrace or by the pool. A free breakfast is delivered to guest rooms each morning.
