Hotel Atlanta

The Atlanta Hotel is a fairly standard budget property right on Rembrandtplein, which offers more privacy than some of the popular area hostels. The exterior has a classic look with a dark facade, long windows, and top dormer windows, while the interior is traditional with lots of mid-century, chestnut furniture. There are few extra property features -- the reception area is mostly just a desk. However, the lobby leads directly into a small but pleasant breakfast room with red carpeting, a chandelier light, a wood-beam ceiling, and a view of the square. While decor is dated, the hotel is clean. The biggest complaints concern the lack of elevator (a slim, winding staircase climbs up to rooms), noise from nearby nightclubs, and lack of air-conditioning. The hotel is ideal for budget travelers mostly looking for a place to sleep while exploring the city. Its location near nightlife also attracts a younger crowd and groups of friends. 

One of the hotel's best features is its location in Canal Ring, right in the center of Rembrandtplein. This popular tourist destination and nightlife spot is lined with hotels, bars, and restaurants. Most of the bars and restaurants have large terraces spreading out into the square, and the hotel entrance is between two of these terraces. The square is busy, especially in the height of tourist season. The area is well-connected to public transportation, with the Rembrandtplein bus and tram stops are just around the corner, a one-minute walk from the hotel. Most city attractions are reachable in 15 minutes or less by foot or public transport.

For guests who want their own space, this hotel is a step-up from a hostel with all private rooms (though some have shared bathrooms). While rooms are clean, they could use a renovation and sometimes have dated decor like textured wallpaper or floral bedding. Options include small and simple Single, Double/Twin, and Triple Rooms. Single Rooms with shared bathrooms tend to be long and narrow, with wood floors, white walls, and simple wood furniture. Deluxe Double Rooms are touched up with details like chandeliers and plush throw pillows. Windows look out on roofs, walls, or other limited vistas -- though a few do look out on the square. Guests have two main complaints: The first is noise from nearby nightlife, which often continues long into the night (and morning). It can also get hot -- the rooms have fans, but there's no air-conditioning. 

Rooms include safes, desks, hangers/open wardrobes, free Wi-Fi, and TVs, though some are old tube TVs. Unexpectedly, rooms also have minibars generously stocked with snacks, sodas, and water (extra fee), but there are no in-room coffee/tea facilities. Bathrooms tend to be clean and fully tiled in white with shower/tub combos or stall showers, but some of the shared bathrooms are tiny. Rooms or bathrooms have hairdryers and soap dispensers. Rooms with shared bathrooms may have small sinks, a helpful touch. 

The hotel has little in the way of extra property features or common areas: There's only a tiny reception space and a small but pleasant breakfast room. A simple breakfast is served daily -- bread, cereal, eggs, juice, and coffee -- but it costs an extra fee. Coffee, tea, and water are available in the lobby during the day for free. Reception is open 24 hours, and guests tend to find staff helpful. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
