Crowne Plaza Amsterdam South

Built in 2011, the Crowne Plaza Amsterdam South is a relatively new 12-story redbrick building with large windows and an inner atrium. Compared to guest rooms, the public areas of the hotel have a slightly generic look: The lobby area is done up in beige and brown and has a spartan atmosphere with clean lines and simple furnishings like low-lying block sofas. But a few details like royal purple rolling chairs and a photo collage stippling the hallway atrium add a bit of flair. The restaurant and bar have more emphasis on style. The Manhattan Lounge Bar includes a custom marble bar counter and geometric pendant lights. There's also a lovely furnished terrace that overlooks a canal. Given the hotel's location, the vast majority of guests are business travelers, but there are also some leisure travelers who choose to stay here because of its excellent transportation links and chic rooms.

Crowne Plaza Amsterdam South is located in a business area next to a canal in South Amsterdam. There are other hotels located nearby, as well as several offices, and convention and conference centers. There's not much to see and do in the immediate area, but a subway stop and train station is located within walking distance, making the city center and most tourist attractions easily accessible from here.

The guest rooms and suites at Crowne Plaza Amsterdam South are decorated in a chic and modern style, featuring a contrasting color palette of gray, mauve, and black. Rich, mauve-colored accents can be found in the carpets, large tufted headboards, and desk chairs. Jet-black leather armchairs and matching ottomans balance the look. Chic patterned gray-and-white brocade wallpaper adorn the accent walls. Beds are covered with crisp white linens topped with black pillows. Vintage black-and-white photos nicely complement the decor, and elegant modern table lamps add soft mood lighting.

All the guest rooms are well-equipped with standard amenities for an upscale hotel like air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, minibars, and electric kettles, as well as safes, bathrobes, and irons and ironing boards. Each room also includes an aromatherapy sleep aid kit, a small extra that's appreciated by guests. Modern white-tiled bathrooms continue the signature color with some walls covered in mauve thumbnail tile. Fittings include large vessel sinks and shower/tub combos, and hairdryers, magnifying mirrors, and toiletries come standard.

The Superior Rooms come with king-size or twin beds, and are reasonably spacious by Amsterdam standards at 236 square feet. The Club Rooms are slightly bigger, at 269 square feet, while the Junior Suites are the most spacious, with 430 square feet of floor space. Club Rooms and Suites feature notable extras like Illy espresso machines and large bathrooms with rainfall showerheads. Guests staying in these rooms can also benefit from one free movie and free minibar items, as well as access to the hotel's Club Lounge where there's free breakfast, drinks, and snacks. Some guests have complained that the guest room windows do not fully open.

Crowne Plaza Amsterdam South has a few extra features, but no swimming pool or spa which are often expected at an upscale hotel. A continental-style buffet breakfast is available for an extra charge at the hotel's on-site restaurant, One-O-One, and features a wide spread of hot and cold dishes, including made-to-order eggs and gluten-free options. Dinner is also served here, and the a la carte menu includes vegetarian options. Room service is available. The Manhattan Lounge Bar is open throughout the day and serves a range of cocktails, hot drinks, light meals, and snacks.

Open to guests staying in Club Rooms, the hotel's Club Lounge serves free breakfast, along with drinks and snacks throughout the day. There's also a comfortable seating area for guests to relax in, a large flat-screen TV, and access to computers and printers.

Open throughout the day, the fitness center is described as a “mini-gym” because of its petite size. A limited amount of fitness equipment is available, including two treadmills, a cross-trainer, stationary bicycle, rowing machine, and free weights.

Meeting facilities are provided in the hotel's six meeting rooms covering a total area of 4,200 square feet which can accommodate up to 200 people. Wi-Fi is free and available in all areas of the hotel.
