Housed in an Amsterdam row house building, the four-floor Best Western Leidse Square is a mid-scale tourist hotel with a contemporary lobby with wood front desk and colorful soft seating. The breakfast room is clean and brightly lighted, and there's also a small lobby-level bar. The rooms are basic but bright, and come with free Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs. There are no business facilities on-site, but the hotel is about a five-minute walk to Vondelpark, the Hoofstraat shopping area, and Leidesplein nightlife.

Situated on a leafy street with elegant residential architecture, the Best Western Leidse Square is within walking distance of Vondelpark, and the Eerste Constantijn Huygensstraat tram station, which connects to the rest of the city. The Leidseplein is about a five-minute walk east of the hotel, while the Museum Quarter (Rijksmuseum, Stedelijk Museum, and Van Gogh Museum) is about a 10-minute walk south. The Anne Frank House and Dam Square are a little more than a mile north, and Schiphol Amsterdam Airport is 8.5 miles southwest.

Arranged on four floors, the 89 rooms at the Best Western range in size from 150 to 290 square feet, and include triples. Rooms are pleasant and modern in feel -- even singles have large windows -- albeit somewhat basic -- they lack pizzazz. But they come with free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, laptop-compatible safes, and coffeemakers. Be aware that some rooms lack air conditioning, and it can get hot in the summer months. Rooms at the front of the hotel overlook the street, while rooms in the back offer views of the neighboring buildings' gardens.

The Best Western offers a large breakfast spread (for a fee) of eggs, bacon, cold cuts, cheeses, breads, cereal, fruit, yogurt, coffee, and juice. A small lobby-level bar serves beer, wine, and cocktails, and the front desk is staffed 24 hours a day.
