Canal Ring, Amsterdam, North Holland Province
Creating a semi-circle around Old Center, the Canal Ring is often what people envision when they think of Amsterdam: Narrow canals separated by tree-lined streets and gorgeous buildings. Most of these were formerly the homes of wealthy merchants, but today house hotels, restaurants, antique shops, and museums. This picturesque spot has a wealth of hotels lining its banks, but here are a few of our favorites. Aptly named, the Canal House Hotel is a sumptuous 23-room boutique towering above one of the area's gorgeous canals. The lovely brick facade suggests something more traditional, but the interior is flashy and fashionable. Swanky rooms are among Amsterdam's most luxurious, and are decked out with rich purple fabrics and dark woods.
