Bottom Line

Located in Torremolinos, Málaga, the 397-room Gran Hotel Blue Sea Cervantes is a busy resort-type property by the beach, with all-inclusive and room-only options. The hotel’s centerpiece is the large pool, flanked by regiments of sunbeds. Crowds vie for position when the pool opens and also jockey for places in the bar queue as the day progresses. Rooms are generic, though feature gorgeous views from many balconies. Easygoing guests with families or those who enjoy a cocktail or two by the pool should be satisfied, though be aware that rowdy revelers are also known to frequent the premises.

Gran Cervantes by Blue Sea

Scene

Lots of bars and a vast buffet with sun, sand, and swimming

The Gran Hotel Blue Sea Cervantes can feel spacious and modern, or like a cruise ship on land. The lobby has a tourist-y vibe in places, with a row of massage chairs, sightseeing flyer displays, various kiosks and advertisements, and a convenience shop. Hanging on the walls are large sepia photographs of the local seacoast that add atmosphere. The area also has a grand piano and stage where there’s nightly entertainment. The grounds and rooftop solarium are quite relaxing and get plenty of Spanish sunshine. Sun worshipers and families with kids will likely be happy here. (But get up early to claim a sun bed!)

Happy hour is a big event, but the lines at the bar get long as the all-inclusive guests collect their day’s allotment of adult beverages. The snack bar and poolside bar, however, provide cocktail alternatives. The restaurant buffet is vast and varied, though the decor is more like a cafeteria than a fine cuisine establishment.

Location

In the area's central shopping district and near a train station; also close to the beach

The Gran Hotel Blue Sea Cervantes is a couple minutes walk to Calle San Miguel, Torremolinos' central shopping district, and is thus surrounded by bars, restaurants, supermarkets, and shops. The train station is quite close as well, and the beach is a five minute walk downhill, or less if guests take the lift for 50 cents. Views of the sea from the hotel rooftop are fantastic.

Rooms

Clean and simple with great balcony views, but some guests complain of thin walls

While not as modern as the lobby area, guest rooms at the Gran Hotel Blue Sea Cervantes are clean and simply decorated. Some rooms have been upgraded, and all have hardwood floors and wood furniture, with armchair seating and floral bedspreads and curtains. All rooms also have private balconies; request a sea or pool view.

Some guests have found the beds uncomfortable and have complained about the rooms' lack of soundproofing. TVs are old school, not flat-screen, but have satellite channels. Marble bathrooms have deep tubs but are on the small side.
