Hotel Macia Alfaros

The front door of Hotel Macia Alfaros is under the covered drive-in entrance for the attached parking garage. Inside, brick floors are inlaid with sections of marble, outlined with blue tiles. Most of the walls are a drab brown that matches the brick, but they're dressed up with everything from marble wainscoting, mirrors, and wooden screens, to brass sconces and Moorish paintings. There are several lounge areas arranged around tiled coffee tables on Oriental area rugs, but the broad mix of upholstered couches and chairs show a lot of wear. The hotel's quiet outdoor spaces -- a rooftop, sheltered patio, and pool area -- are more inviting. Clientele tends to be tourists, including couples, families, and friends traveling in groups. Guests may see people here for meetings, as there's ample event space. 

The hotel is located in the center of Cordoba on a narrow one-way street. There's a cafe down the block and several restaurants and bars within easy walking distance past the ruins of a Roman temple. It's under a 10-minute walk to Tendillas Plaza, the Marques de Viana Palace, and the Plaza de la Corredera. It's about 15 minutes on foot to the Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba and to other historic tourist attractions closer to the river. Expect a 25-minute drive to Cordoba Airport.

The 144 guest rooms are up to date for the most part, but there are a few aspects that give away their age and even affect functionality; such is the case with the lack of outlets for charging or powering devices. Light yellow walls are paired with dark wood and metal furnishings, along with gray carpets and fabrics. Standard rooms have twin or double beds (or two twin beds pushed together) with padded headboards against wallpaper that has a faded Moorish print. Decorative silver wall lamps hang above bedside tables and all rooms have work desks with cushioned chairs, seating areas with armchairs, and small round tables. Free Wi-Fi comes standard, and flat-screen TVs sit on cabinets that house minibars. The bathrooms have a mix of old tile work, with bidets and shower/tub combos. Some upgraded units feature small furnished balconies. Junior Suites have decorative arches and other traditional wall accents, along with separate living areas with couches. There's also a suite with vaulted ceilings and a whirlpool tub. 

The hotel has several pleasant outdoor spaces, including a quiet patio and a gravel rooftop terrace with chairs and potted plants. There's an outdoor pool in a traditional-looking Moorish courtyard, with water features along a stone wall, and next to a decorative fountain are a few tables serviced by the lobby bar. Inside, the bar has an espresso machine and more seating at metal stools along the brick bar top, or at a few scattered tables. The restaurant serves traditional Spanish and indigenous local cuisine, and there's a breakfast buffet for an extra fee. There's no spa, but the hotel has a small fitness room with a few cardio machines. On-site business facilities consist of nine meeting rooms, the largest of which has a capacity for 300 people. Parking is available in a private garage for a fee, but Wi-Fi is free throughout.
