Bottom Line

The mid-range Hotel Plaza Cavana is a small property with lovely sea views from multiple areas and located just a five-minute walk from the beach. Rooms are contemporary, with slightly varying features, but all promise free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and balconies -- though some are Juliet-style and not big enough for chairs. It's worth mentioning that some rooms, particularly plaza-facing rooms, can pick up street noise. On-site features are limited to a rooftop pool and adjacent snack bar, and dining room for breakfast. Guests, especially families traveling with children, should check out Riu Monica Hotel Nerja, which has more amenities.

Hotel Plaza Cavana

Scene

Small hotel with an intimate, inviting feel

Among shops and outdoor eateries lies the Hotel Plaza Cavana. A bright-white hotel, the front-facing Juliet balconies and the double doors leading out to them add charm to the exterior. Inside, the few public spaces have a simple design ranging from dated and colorful to more elegant spaces with a Mediterranean vibe. The small lobby has casual wicker furniture surrounded by potted plants for an inviting feel, and the breakfast room is even more pleasant with gray-marble tiling, hanging basket lights, and a tree with branches that stretch across the ceiling. The English-style bar is the most dated area, outfitted with blue and red patterned seating, and clashing red wallpaper and curtains. While the rooftop pool is tiny, the panoramic views there are stunning. Guests tend to be couples due to the lack of kid-centric facilities. Also note that the hotel has designated quiet hours (from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. during our visit).

Rooms

Basic, but clean and contemporary rooms

Rooms at Hotel Plaza Cavana are basic and minimally decorated, but they're clean and comfortable. Room styles vary a bit, either outfitted with gray-marble, beige-tile, or wood flooring, white furniture, white bedding, and either periwinkle or beige walls. Some rooms have charming tile patterned wallpaper accents. Most rooms have small Juliet-style balconies, while some do have a full-sized, furnished terrace with hindered sea views. Previous guests have noted that rooms facing the square tend to pick up a bit of street noise. Standard amenities include free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, safes, and mini-fridges. Most bathrooms have a neutral-color scheme, while others are a bit more contemporary and have a black-and-white color palette with sleek black-tiled floors. They're equipped with either walk-in showers or shower/tub combos, free bath products, and hairdryers, plus some have bidets.

Features

Rooftop pool, snack bar, and buffet breakfast

The hotel doesn't have a ton to occupy guests on-site, and even less for kids. There's no full restaurant but a buffet breakfast is available and most previous guests have found it offers a wide variety of choices. The standout feature is the rooftop pool, which is surrounded by loungers and Bali beds (for a fee) and has excellent views of the sea and surrounding city. The pool bar offers drinks and snacks, but it's only open in the summer months. An indoor English-style pub is available as well. Wi-Fi is free throughout. There's no gym.
