Bottom Line

The Hotel Roc Golf's 390 fresh, classic rooms are contained in a massive reinforced concrete building set directly on the beach. Rooms are a bit plain, but they're spacious clean, as are the facilities. Some guests have complained of long lines in the on-site restaurants, but there are numerous other places to eat in the vicinity and on-site restaurants offer a variety of food. Some hidden fees are surprising, but overall this is a solid value considering the many outdoor pool and activities such as dance classes and a sports court.

Oyster Hotel Review

Hotel Roc Golf Trinidad

Scene

Stark beachside resort popular with families

The Hotel Roc Golf's exterior is a mix of reinforced concrete architecture and shiny new surfaces. The lobby is glassed in and features stark white modern furniture, slate-gray floors, and an atrium style ceiling to create a sleek, if not cozy, feel. Manicured stone paths landscaped with palm trees cross the grounds and lead to the beach promenade. The resort is popular with Spanish families, although it does attract a fair number of visitors from English-speaking countries.

Rooms

Refurbished rooms in cream and tan color scheme with laminate surfaces

The rooms here are generally spacious with couches and balconies but in some cases, and you may have to turn sideways to slip between the desk and the bed. Rooms have been updated with light wood laminate headboards, bamboo flooring, and simple tan-colored bedding (that's a bit bland). Stall showers are separated from the bathroom by a single, swinging plate of glass; double rooms may, in typical European style, consist of two single beds pushed together. Each studio room has a kitchenette with a medium-sized fridge and a double hot plate.

Features

Two large pools, a kiddie pool, and a games areas are major draws for families.

There are a couple of game areas with foosball and pingpong tables, as well as a fair number of organized classes and sporting events for both adults and children. The two outdoor pools are large and don't receive quite as many overcrowding complaints as those of neighboring hotels. There's an open-plan cafeteria in the lobby that looks like something you'd find at a university (it even has a few pool tables) and an outdoor poolside snack bar with covered seating. The fitness center has dated equipment.
