The 118-room, mid-range Hotel Villa Flamenca sits in a residential area of Nerja, an 11-minute walk from the beach and short walk to restaurants and bars. The hotel finished a complete renovation of their rooms in 2016, which resulted in simple but lovely furnishings. All come equipped with free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and furnished balconies, but they lack mini-fridges and safes requires a fee. The small pool and rooftop solarium have free sunbeds, and there are also a sauna and whirlpool. Dining-wise, on-site are a well-reviewed poolside snack bar and restaurant serving buffet-style breakfast and dinner. There's no gym and entertainment is limited, so families with young kids might prefer Riu Monica Hotel Nerja, which has more on-site amenities.
Scene
Quiet hotel largely renovated in 2016, but still with rustic Andalusian charm
The Hotel Villa Flamenca is small property with a low-key vibe. Exposed wood beams, a red-brick front desk and fireplace, and wrought-iron accents, give interiors an attractive and rustic feel. The lobby's brown-leather couches, olive-green armchairs, and chevron patterns are cozy and contemporary. There's also a charming courtyard filled with a fountain, hand-painted wood furniture, and tons of greenery along the cobblestone floor and white walls. Outside, public spaces are few, so most guests tend to be at the small pool or outside exploring the area. Due to the lack of amenities geared toward kids, the hotel is best suited to couples.
Location
Walking distance from the beach, shops, and restaurants
Hotel Villa Flamenca is located in a residential area, making its immediate surroundings a bit quiet, which most guests like. Although removed from the main hustle of town, guests are just a short walk away from much of what Nerja has to offer. The main town center, with restaurants, bars, and shops, is about 10 minutes away on foot. The beach, specifically Playa Burriana, is a manageable 11-minute walk from the hotel. Balcon de Europa, a popular spot for tourists, is reachable on foot too (16 minutes). There's no hotel parking, but street parking is available.
Rooms
Attractive, simple rooms renovated in 2016
All of the hotel's neutral-tone guest rooms were completely renovated in 2015 and 2016. The overall look is simple but attractive, featuring Andalusian-style wood furniture that adds charm, and white sheets with taupe, textured throw blankets and pillows. White walls are spruced up with mirrors and occasionally artwork, and beige tile were replaced with imitation wood flooring. All rooms have doors that lead to furnished balconies with two plastic chairs and a table, though it's worth mentioning that sizes vary and some are quite small. Bathrooms were part of the 2016 renovations, and now come with walk-in showers, in addition to free bath products and hairdryers. Superior Rooms feature open-plan bathrooms, where the sink is separated from the bed area only by the walk-in shower, which has glass walls on three sides and may not provide enough privacy for some guests. Also standard are closets with a few dresser drawers, safes (fee), and extra blankets. Air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi are also present, but mini-fridges are not.
Features
Rooftop solarium, pool, whirlpool, sauna, poolside snack bar, and buffet restaurant
The Hotel Villa Flamenca offers a few on-site features, though not enough to keep guests occupied for their whole stay and nothing specific to kids. The rooftop solarium -- which previous guests have noted is underrated and under-used -- offers some great views and gets lots of sun. Down at the pool deck is where most of the action is, though. The actual pool is small, but there are a good amount of sunbeds and umbrellas, plus an adjacent, well-reviewed snack bar is a big plus. A whirlpool and a dry-heat sauna are also on-site, but there's no gym and entertainment receives mixed reviews. The buffet restaurant -- also renovated in 2016 -- is open for breakfast and dinner.
