Bottom Line

The 414-room Las Palmeras is a dated, two-and-a-half-pearl hotel. Undoubtedly the two best features of this hotel are its beach access and central location on the promenade. From the hotel, guests are just a short walk from Fuengirola's main attractions, bars, and restaurants. While there is no shortage of things to do outside the hotel, on the property there aren't too many entertainment options. Guests have access to the pool and separate pool for toddlers, a buffet restaurant, and a kids' club for families. Rooms are more attractive than other spaces and come with furnished balconies -- though only some have water views. The outdated, worn areas, plus fees for Wi-Fi and in-room safes make this hotel a poor value overall. It's worth checking out the Fuengirola Beach Aparthotel, which has more on-site features and in-room kitchenettes.

Hotel Las Palmeras

Scene

Dated decor throughout lower-middle-range property

Architecturally, Las Palmeras Hotel is nothing special, its orange hue is eye-catching -- but that's not necessarily saying it's attractive. On a palm tree-lined street the beachy-vibe is apparent from the road, but doesn't continue inside. Interiors are extremely dated, from the lobby's bright-red and mustard-yellow plush seating, yellow walls, and blue area rug to the Train Bar's red patterned carpet, colorful striped seating, and wood paneling. The fifth-floor pool deck is easily the most attractive public space, and it offers views of the marina. Still, furnishings are in need of an update and wear is visible throughout. Couples and families with low expectations may find the hotel suits their needs, but there are plenty of nearby hotels offering better facilities at a similar price.

Location

Prime location on the promenade, close to restaurants and entertainment

A quick 20-minute drive from Malaga Airport and guests will be beachside at Las Palmeras Hotel. The hotel's location is undoubtedly one of its greatest selling points. It's on the promenade, steps from the beach, and walking distance to many of Fuengirola's top restaurants, bars, and sites. Two great spots for kids Sould Park (three minutes) and Bioparc Fuengirola (13 minutes) are walking distance from the hotel.

Rooms

Spacious rooms that could use some updates

When it comes to the rooms, they're a touch more contemporary than public spaces, but could still use a refresh. The design consists of beige tile floors, simple wood furniture, red bedding, and curtains with plant motifs. Old tube-style TVs add age to the already out-of-date spaces. That being said, the rooms are comfortably sized and well-maintained. Suites have a more updated look thanks to dark-wood furniture, deep-red accent walls, and modern seating in neutral tones. Balconies are surprisingly well-sized, too, and come furnished with two or four plastic chairs and a table. Some balconies have water views while others overlook the street. Past guests have complained of noise from the street and neighboring rooms.

Bathrooms have an unexpectedly modern design. Standard rooms have floor-to-ceiling beige tiles, granite vanities, shower/tub combos, bidets, hairdryers, and free bath products. Suite bathrooms are nearly double in size, with double vanities and separate rooms for the bidets and toilets. In-room safes and Wi-Fi require a fee.

Features

Beach access, and a pool showing some age

Las Palmeras' pool is located on an upper deck of the hotel, giving guests pretty views of the surrounding area and marina. The deck has loungers and thatched umbrellas, as well as a poolside snack bar with shaded seating. The patio around the pool shows signs of wear and has quite a few stained spots, as do some fixtures on the pool itself. A small shallow pool is also here for little ones. Down at the beach, sunbeds and umbrellas are available, too, but at a cost.

Inside, the hotel doesn't offer too many entertainment options. A game room offers two billiards tables, plus there's a kids club, too. In addition to the pool bar, there are a indoor bar and a buffet restaurant open for all meals. All-inclusive packages can be purchased.
