MB Boutique Hotel

This trendy, adult-only boutique hotel (not for children under the age of 13) aims to provide modern comforts in sleek interiors. While the property’s size and style aren’t luxurious, its super contemporary and clean spaces, along with its focus on high-tech features, gives it a polish that feels upscale for a mid-range hotel. The lobby and front desk area are little more than a tiny corridor, but it’s bright, with spotless white walls and large windows. Other hallways, and the elevator, are dimly lit with bluish lights, giving the property an almost futuristic look. The rooftop, with its hot tubs and solarium, is a popular hangout spot -- especially since there's limited space to gather indoors. 

Surrounded by quiet residences, but also easily walkable to entertainment, dining, and attractions, the hotel’s location in the center of Nerja is ideal for tourists. It’s under five minutes on foot to the restaurants and nightlife of Tutti Frutti Plaza, and the beaches of Calahonda and Carabeo are both under a 15-minute walk away. It takes 10 minutes to walk to the Balcon De Europa. The Caves of Nerja are easily reached in 30 minutes by bus (the bus depot is 15 minutes on foot from the hotel). Nearby towns like Maro and Frigiliana are 10- to 15-minute drives away. The hotel can arrange taxi or minibus transfers to and from Malaga Airport, 50 minutes away by car. 

The hotel’s tech-centric style becomes clearest in the rooms, which are small, but incredibly clean. With parquet floors, dark wood furnishings, plain white walls, and neutral-toned drapes, their aesthetics are minimalist, but the ultramodern facilities are standout. All room controls are tactile and digital, including lighting (LED lights on the headboards can change color), air-conditioning, and even water (touch-screens in the bathroom manage the temperature and speed of the showers and sink faucets). While nifty and often eco-friendly, the electronic features tend to confuse some guests who aren’t accustomed to the technology. 

Double and Deluxe Double Rooms feature blackout curtains, 42-inch flat-screen TVs, laptop-compatible safes, and tablets from which to make housekeeping, room service, or concierge requests. Guests can select from a pillow menu to make sleeping more comfortable. Not all rooms have desks, but Wi-Fi is free. Coffeemakers are provided, and fully stocked minibars are especially popular, thanks to each product (cans of soda, candy bars, and nuts) being only € 1 and free water. Several Double Rooms and all Deluxe Double Rooms have pleasant terraces with seating, but views aren’t noteworthy. Larger Superior Double Rooms and Junior Suites don’t have terraces, but come with bigger (60-inch) or multiple flat-screen TVs.

All bathrooms are clean and provide Keiji toiletries, hairdryers, and magnifying mirrors. All have rainfall showerheads, though Double and Deluxe Double Rooms have walk-in showers, while Superior Double rooms and Junior Suites have bathtubs. Some Suites also come with jetted tubs. However, many guests find the open layout bathrooms to be awkward, as it makes privacy practically nonexistent. 

There's no real restaurant or bar here. However, breakfast, included with rates, is served in a bright and tidy cafeteria space outfitted in white tables and chairs with sunny yellow accents. The continental spread of pastries, cheeses, breads, fruits, and juices is simple, but adequate. The cafeteria is also open throughout the day for snacks and beverages.  

There aren’t many other amenities, but the few available are top-notch and mostly free. The rooftop solarium is a breezy, immaculately-maintained space, lined with sunbeds (which come with free towels) for lounging. The area features two whirlpool tubs instead of a pool, and includes a vending machine that dispenses both soft drinks and beer at extremely reasonable rates. The music selection could use some variation, though, as it can get both repetitive and slightly loud.

A small business center has two computers and a printer to use for free. Wi-Fi throughout the property is also free. While there is no on-site laundry room, the hotel does offer free ironing services. Parking around the hotel can be an issue, as there are limited free spots nearby.
