Bottom Line

The mid-range, 229-room Myramar Fuengirola is located in a mostly quiet, residential area just outside of the Fuengirola city center. From the hotel, the beach is about a 15-minute walk, which may be deemed too far for some. The hotel opened in 2002, and while the rooms have a dated look, the rest of the hotel -- from the restaurants to the outdoor pool deck -- is decidedly modern and has an unexpected stylish feel. Despite needing a decor update, rooms have modern amenities such as Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, and well-equipped kitchenettes. Note, however, that in-room safes and use of the gym and spa facilities requires a fee. Travelers looking to be right on the beach may prefer Florida Spa, though rooms lack kitchenettes and rates are a bit higher.

Myramar Fuengirola Hotel

Scene

Contemporary, family-friendly hotel built in 2002

Myramar Fuengirola Hotel is a family-friendly property that was built in 2002. For a three-pearl property, the hotel is surprisingly modern and stylish, though rooms are significantly less so. The bright, terra-cotta tiled lobby features a white-marble reception desk, Art Deco chandelier, black-leather seating, and greenery wrapped around white columns. Olea restaurant is the most contemporary space, decorated with lucite chairs, crystal chandeliers, and wallpaper with a bubble motif. Outside is just as attractive, as the mosaic-tiled pool is surrounded by a stone deck on one side and lush hedges on the other. The hotel has a quiet vibe that's best suited to couples and low-key families.

Location

In a mostly quiet, residential area

Myramar Fuengirola Hotel is removed from the Fuengirola town center, but not so much that it's inconveniently out of reach. Its distance allows this spot to be quiet and relaxing. The beach is about a 15-minute walk (or quick 5-minute drive) from the hotel. Just a three-minute walk away is Miramar, a large shopping center that houses restaurants, countless shops, and a cinema, too. Other entertainment options that are close by include Tu Casa Skate Park (eight-minute walk), Castle Sohail (13-minute walk) and Sould Park (33-minute walk, or nine-minute drive).

Rooms

Lackluster but spacious apartments

The hotel offers one- and two-bedroom apartments that are a bit dated but spacious. The design includes beige-tile floors, yellow walls, wooden furniture, and dated linens in red and orange hues. Separate living areas include two couches, dining tables, and well-equipped kitchenettes that have mini-fridges, microwaves, electric burners, and cabinets stocked with cooking and dining necessities. These spaces also have flat-screen TVs and doors that lead to furnished balconies. Much like the lounge space, the bedroom has a dated decor, too—the room lacks character with plain orange bedding and boring wood furniture. Marble bathrooms feel more contemporary than the rest of the apartments, and have either small showers or shower/tub combos, hairdryers, and bath products. Wi-Fi is free throughout, but in-room safes require a fee.

Features

Kid-friendly entertainment, large pool, and two restaurants

Most activity is centered around the pretty and long pool, which has plenty of free sunbeds and umbrellas available. Also adjacent to the pool are billiards and ping-pong tables, as well as a sizable kids' pool. A poolside bar has shaded seating and serves drinks and food. Occasionally there is live music. Many previous guests have noted that the live entertainment is much better suited for kids than adults. Kids will also likely enjoy the outdoor playground, kids' club, mini-golf, and tennis courts. Adults will have plenty to do, too, but some of it comes at a cost. The on-site gym and spa facilities must be paid for. The gym is well-sized and stocked with modern equipment, while the spa offers an indoor pool, whirlpool, sauna, and massage treatments.

Two restaurants provide a la carte meals and buffet-style Mediterranean fare plus themed nights such as Italian and Asian.

Wi-Fi is free but spotty.
