Bottom Line

The 204-room Royal Al-Andalus is a chain hotel with an all-inclusive option on gorgeous grounds. Close to the beach and the center of Torremolinos, the hotel offers plenty of places to relax: by the pool, on a hammock, in the bar, or on the rooftop terrace, as well as numerous activities for all ages. The beach is a short walk away, and close enough that some rooms have sea views.

Royal Al-Andalus

Scene

Lovely gardens, Spanish-style tile work, and contemporary art define the look.

The Royal Al-Andalus has gorgeous tropical gardens with fish ponds, floating lotus flowers, and fountains. The hotel is very Spanish, not just in its clientele but in the oranges and reds, rich woods, and Moorish-influenced mosaic tilework that dominates the common areas. The lobby is furnished with black and red leather sofas that invite guests to linger and socialize with a cocktail. The artwork in the lobby and hallways is contemporary and bright, and around the grounds, inside and out, there are bull statues painted by various artists. Large groups frequent the hotel, which, combined with the all-inclusive board option, makes things a little chaotic at mealtimes or when lining up for a cocktail from the bar. The hotel lounge is painted a vibrant red, with cool white leather armchairs that give it a chic feel, but the decor in the buffet restaurant is less inviting, with the tables arranged in rows that give the dining room an institutional feel.

Location

Less than a mile from downtown Torremolinos and La Carihuela Beach

The Royal Al-Andalus is not right on the beach, but La Carihuela Playa is less than half a mile away, and the area is known for having the best food in the region. Just a little over a half mile away is downtown Torremolinos and its sights, including the Torremolinos Synagogue. Immediately surrounding the hotel are many bars, restaurants, and shops. A rental car is helpful for exploring the Costa del Sol, but there is a lot to do at the hotel for those who prefer to relax and stay put.

Rooms

Spacious rooms with Spanish style decor, balconies, and nice views

Rooms at the Royal Al-Andalus are comfortable and spacious, plainly decorated but with a Spanish feel. Painted in reds and oranges with dark wood furnishings and oversize headboards in wood or striped upholstery, rooms feel warm and inviting, if a little bare. All rooms have balconies with views of either the pool, the gardens, or, on higher floors, the sea. Rooms have flat-screen TVs, safes, and minibars.

The pool at the Royal Al-Andalus is ringed with sunbeds, nestled in a tropical garden. The poolside bar serves cocktails, ice cream, and snacks. A cozy outdoor game area features Foosball, billiard, and ping-pong tables. In-room childcare is available for a surcharge, but in season there is a mini club with programs for kids. The buffet restaurant serves a variety of international cuisines for themed lunches: Mexican, Italian, Asian, Andalusian, and more. The banquet room is elegant, with pretty chandeliers, and a checkerboard marble floor that gives a slightly regal vibe to the decor.
