Bottom Line

The 338-apartment Sol Timor Apartments property is located on La Carihuela Beach, and its lovely promenade. The hotel could definitely use an update in its furnishings and design, and the rooms offer few frills, but they do have fully-equipped kitchenettes. There's a mini-club for kids, offering arts and crafts, pool games, and evening entertainment, but it's only offered during the summer months. For adults, there are water sports, dance and zumba classes, darts, tennis, and more. Overall, it's a solid budget property if you're willing to overlook the wear and tear.

Oyster Hotel Review

Sol Timor by Meliá – Apartamentos

Scene

Slightly worn, but clean and welcoming, with programmed activities and entertainment

The Sol Timor Apartments are older and could use refurbishing, but the location, views, lawn, and pool make this resort a solid value. For the kids, there is a play area that includes rock climbing, as well as a kids' pool. The Beach Bar offers cocktails, smoothies, and juices in a charming wooden shack. The Restaurant Buffet is dated, but the casual vibe, with jute placemats, plaid chair seats, plants, and a general feeling of vacation mojo, works. There is a bit too much green, and the lighting could be better thought out, but everything is clean, and there is plenty of room for groups to sit together or couples to get away from the pack. The Salon Bar, with a stage and dance floor, has a Holiday Inn lounge aesthetic, and the tables seem to have been poorly re-covered in oil cloth, but when the lights go down, and the music starts playing, the rough edges don't show. Hallways are dingy and narrow; the lobby lacks style, but the beach and other surroundings are the main draw here.

Rooms

Kitchenettess, balconies with views, and older decor define rooms here.

Rooms at the Sol Timor Apartments need refurbishing, but they are clean, and the kitchenettes are furnished with two-burner cooktops, microwaves, toasters, mini-fridges, dishes, and cookware. Furniture in many rooms is mismatched or worn, and the lighting is dark. Some rooms smell of cleaning fluids. All rooms have balconies, and many have sea views. Satellite TVs are not flat-screens, and some guests have complained that the mattresses are uncomfortable, but the Sol Timor is reasonably priced for this location; it is simply due for a major update.
