How Steamy! 11 Hotel Rooms with Private Whirlpools

See recent posts by Lara Grant

Honeymoons, anniversaries, or just weekends away can be made all the more romantic with a bottle of champagne for drinking and a hot tub for soaking. But it can kinda kill the mood if you have to share the whirlpool with other hotel guests, or if it's nestled up alongside a pool teeming with splashing tots. That’s why we’ve found some hotels that offer private whirlpools -- either in luxurious bathrooms or on lovely wooden decks -- in various room types so your jetted bath time won’t be disturbed. Here are our 11 favorites -- we just couldn't narrow it down to 10.

The Fairmont Kea Lani Maui

Wailea’s aptly named Fairmont Kea Lani is a “white heaven” indeed — its 450 units sit on a 22-acre beachfront property that includes four pools, four restaurants and one lounge, access to world-class golf, some of Maui’s largest rooms, and a relentless dedication to service that rivals the nearby Four Seasons. The Two Bedroom Villa pictured above is definitely for deep-pocketed patrons that want a romantic getaway. The spacious villa has a separate living and dining room area, but its most alluring feature is the terrace with a private jetted pool and gorgeous views of the water.

Arenas Del Mar Beach and Nature Resort, Costa Rica

Arenas del Mar is proof that staying at an eco-resort doesn’t mean roughing it: Its 38 contemporary rooms are among the nicest in Manuel Antonio, its restaurant is excellent, and its public spaces embody rustic luxury. The property’s lush rainforest, two beautiful white-sand beaches on site, and diverse wildlife allow guests to truly connect with the nature that the resort’s design so painstakingly preserved. The 11-acre property is expansive, but you may not want to leave your room if you step foot in the colorfully-tiled whirlpool that the Ocean View Premium Suite contains. The large outdoor terrace also has sun loungers and wicker chairs to sit on while you gaze at the ocean through the lush grounds.

La Reunion Golf Resort, Guatemala

La Reunion Antigua Golf Resort is an outstanding luxury pick located in the shadow of four volcanoes (two of them active) about 30 minutes from the colonial city of Antigua, Guatemala. Luxurious facilities and incredible volcano views are highlights here, along with an infinity-edge swimming pool and a Pete Dye designed golf course. Plus, the upscale restaurant and rooftop bar both have volcano views. The elegantly decorated rooms feature hand-woven indigenous textiles to create comfortable, appealing spaces. Outside is our favorite part: The private patios, like the one shown in the Master Suite, have climate-controlled infinity-edge swimming pools with built-in whirlpools. Soaking in the hot tub while overlooking the golf course and scenery sounds like a recipe for romance to us!

Majestic Colonial Punta Cana

This family-friendly all-inclusive resort with 658 suites has an attractive setting, affordable prices, and a compact layout that puts everyone within walking distance to the beach. The beach is the biggest draw and there is also a large pool area that runs the length of the resort, a number of bars, and a charismatic animation team. Adults who choose to upgrade to the Colonial Club have access to a private lazy river pool and separate lounge for drinks and gourmet treats. The Colonial Jr. Suite Ocean Front has this gorgeous tiled terrace with a private hot tub. The palm trees and scenic views of the water are perfect for a romantic beach getaway, and you can still bring the fam along and find time for one-on-one bonding as well.

Ventana Inn & Spa, Big Sur

Situated on more than 200 acres of picturesque oceanfront land, The Ventana Inn & Spa looks like a rustic cabin nestled in the woods — yet it features 62 luxurious, streamlined rooms with wooden accents, refreshing pops of color, and modern amenities such as flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, and free Wi-Fi. Many rooms have fireplaces, creating a cozy retreat vibe to fit with its surroundings — though glass doors and large windows keep the rooms feeling bright and airy. Not a place for families, the overall goal of the hotel is to create a zen, holistic retreat with such offerings as yoga classes, discovery walks, afternoon wine and cheese, Japanese baths, and two pools (one of which is clothing optional). The Big Sur Spa Suite has rustic interiors that spill onto the wooden deck, complete with a hammock, wicker chairs, and a whirlpool.

Las Posadas of Sedona

The upper-middle-range Las Posadas offers 20 spacious, bed-and-breakfast-style suites in a quiet corner of Sedona, seven miles from the busy Uptown area. Guests come for the huge suites with kitchenettes, living rooms, and fireplaces, as well as the homey atmosphere, created courtesy of extras like the three-course gourmet breakfast, daily appetizers, and cookies (all free). Although the space lacks a pool, the villas are huge and each has a kitchen area and fireplace. The Deluxe Suite with Private Hot Tub shown above is a particularly appealing room.

Geejam, Jamaica

The tiny Geejam is made up of only five private, high-tech cottages on the lush foothills of Port Antonio. The setting is gorgeous, the service is extraordinary, and one of the Caribbean’s most beautiful beaches is only 10 minutes away. While every cottage (each is named after a phase in Jamaican music) has its own unique and appealing characteristics, the Ska cottage comes with a private outdoor whirlpool on its large two-story wooden deck. This quiet resort is geared toward low-key couples, and in-room massage treatments are available.

Astarte Suites, Greece

From Swarovski crystals above the in-suite hot tubs to multiple chartering services, this 11-suite boutique luxury hotel was designed to appeal to a high-level (and high-livin’) clientele. Ideal for honeymooners or guests looking for a romantic getaway, Astarte Suites makes a supreme effort to provide guests with discretion and privacy. The property offers upscale contemporary decor and all of the chic suites are designed after a different ancient Mediterranean culture.

Hotel Aspen

Modern furnishings, high-tech amenities, and luxe touches give this 45-unit hotel a boutique vibe. The sleek pool deck is especially stylish, with wicker lounge chairs and a year-round pool, hot tub, and fire pit. The hotel’s location along Main Street is a plus, as restaurants, bars, and ski lifts are all within walking distance. If you don’t want to mingle with other guests at the pool, look into the Jacuzzi Suite — it’s modishly decorated in black, red, and white and has a small wooden deck with a whirlpool overlooking the scenic mountains.

Sivory Punta Cana

One of the few boutique hotels in Punta Cana, the quiet, 55-room Sivory lures mostly couples to its secluded location — about an hour ride from the airport. Service is impressive, as is the natural setting. As for the bathrooms, consider them a couple’s dream: A two-person whirlpool and two-person shower with two shower heads on opposing walls make for a phenomenally romantic vibe in each room. The whirlpool is next to a window and shaded by ferns. (Not to worry: There are shades as well.) Guests who upgrade to the Ysla Bonita Suite get a private outdoor hot tub or plunge pool as well.

MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas

The biggest hotel (by room count) in Las Vegas has the biggest casino in town, many of the best restaurants, an enormous and fun pool complex, and a huge range of on-site entertainment options. This place is so big and diverse that everyone — yes, everyone — can find what they want, even if the service is unexceptional. For those vacationing couples not wanting to spend all night at the casinos or clubs, the Tower Spa Suite has this gorgeous marble bathroom with a whirlpool for two.
