No Need to Rush: Six Hotels Where You Can Stay for a Month — Or Longer!

See recent posts by Julie Ruditzky Loffredi

Sometimes a hotel just feels like home. And that's the idea behind our favorite long-term stay hotels; these properties actually encourage guests to crash for weeks at a time. Whether you have what feels like a never-ending work trip or just want to take a break from the norm, there are plenty of hotels that cater towards those looking for more than a weekend (or week, or two-week) getaway. Here are some six top picks for extended stay hotels from us at Oyster.com. Just be warned --- the feel-at-home vibes may make it hard to leave them ever.

AKA Times Square, NYC

The AKA Times Square has 106 apartment-style units in three sizes. Most are studios and one bedrooms, but there are 20 two-bedroom units for families and larger groups. Because this historic building had smaller windows, some of the rooms lack much natural light, especially the units facing the rear (away from 44th Street). The plus side to this is that these units will be more quiet. In other words, the brightest rooms are front-facing rooms, but the quietest ones face the rear. Most bathrooms have large walk-in showers and rainfall shower heads, but only one floor in the building has tub/shower combos — these units can be requested in advance. Upon arrival, extended-stay guests will find Bulgari bath toiletries — but these will not be restocked until the next weekly cleaning, much like the two Voss bottled waters that are in the kitchen as well. Guests can pay a fee for additional cleanings.

Vdara Hotel & Spa, Las Vegas

Vdara is one of three sleek hotels in the new City Center complex, an $11 billion mega development a few blocks from The Strip. It’s a modern, sumptuous hotel with impressive rooms (they’re all suites), a lobby bar, and a decent pool. But the quiet atmosphere isn’t for everyone, so those who want to be in the heart of the Vegas action should stay elsewhere. For stays longer than 30 days, check the leasing options.

The Surrey, NYC

Starting at a spacious 330 square feet, rooms here are bigger than those at both the Carlyle and the Waldorf Astoria, and feature extraordinarily comfortable custom Dux by Duxiana mattresses topped with Sferra linens. The occasional weird design choice (a cheap-looking armoire and pillows embroidered with corny poetic quotes, for example), however, take the rooms down a notch from those at the make-no-mistakes Carlyle. Still, with ebony oversize desks with inlaid vanity traysBulova alarm clocks, and handsome coffee table books (like those on the fashions of Lanvin and the portraits ofVanity Fair), rooms are much more stylishly contemporary than those than those at the Waldorf or the New York Palace

Hyatt House Dallas

The Hyatt House Dallas is designed for those on extended stays, and features large rooms with kitchenettes and sitting areas. Though there is nothing particularly charming about the hotel (room decor is bland, and looks similar to what one may find in a dorm — especially when you consider the striped bedspreads), it does have an above-average courtyard pool area, and the freebies are endless: breakfast, Wi-Fi, a cocktail hour, and even free grocery shopping services. It’s located in trendy Uptown, though it’s a bit removed from the neighborhood’s main action. Business travelers may appreciate the 24-hour access to the fitness center, business center, and convenience store.

The Pierre – A Taj Hotel, NYC

An elegant, historic hotel across the street from Central Park, the Pierre offers a taste of grand old New York to those staying for a while in any of its 189 small but freshly renovated guest rooms. The large staff is white-glove formal, but service is not without the occasional glitch — and the hotel lacks the on-site amenities of some of its by-the-park luxury competitors, like the Plaza and the Four Seasons.

Rosewood Sand Hill, Silicon Valley

The stylish and modern Rosewood Sand Hill rolls out the red carpet for those looking for a few weeks away. The 121 rooms are bright and airy, complete with HD TVs with surround sound, spacious showers (the rainfall shower heads have fantastic pressure), and large, sunny patios and balconies with views of the beautiful natural surroundings. Fine dining at Madera, a luxury spa, a stunning landscaping, and a family-friendly outdoor pool round out the experience. It’s one of the top luxury properties in Silicon Valley, and proves why the Rosewood brand’s reputation is well-deserved.
