New York City is notorious for both high rents and pricey hotel rooms, so when the two worlds collide in the form of apartments inside of hotels, it's no surprise that rates soar. The Pierre - A Taj Hotel, on the fancy Upper East Side of Manhattan, recently rented it's entire 39th floor as a private apartment for the princely sum of -- wait for it -- $500,000 a month. What does that buy? Oh, just 4,786 square feet of furnished living space that includes six bedrooms and six full bathrooms. Views overlook Central Park, the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir, and the George Washington Bridge. And of course, a chauffeur-driven Jaguar and complete butler service are part of the package.
The renter is anonymous but he or she must have friends (or "friends" who enjoy the perks-- can we join?!), because they also rented a second $150,000-a-month suite for guests -- just in time for the holidays. Check out our non-biased review and professional pictures of The Pierre before you decide if a stay here is worth the splurge. King Superior rooms start around $389 a night.
