Creepy twin girls that roam hallways and the word “redrum” are just two things that come to mind when one pictures The Stanley Hotel, which served as the inspiration for Stephen King’s "The Shining." And yes, The Stanley Hotel is reportedly haunted, and so guests here can experience ghost tours and get in touch with the on-site psychic. It’s no surprise then that during Halloween, the Stanley Hotel is the place to be. The hotel is lit red at night and hosts three different events -- a Murder Mystery dinner, The Shining Ball (complete with Shining-themed decor), and a Halloween Masquerade Party. It’s a spooky affair and one that is sure to make a memorable Halloween getaway.

2. Omni Mount Washington Resort, Bretton Woods, New Hampshire

The luxurious Omni Mount Washington Resort goes all out on Halloween celebrations at the end of October. From October 27th to 29th, the hotel hosts day-long events for both kids and adults. Activities range from soap making and Tarot card reading for adults, to frightening film screenings at the hotel that could be enjoyed by the whole family. Adults can also participate in a Halloween Costume Party on the 28th in The Cave, an old fashioned Prohibition-era speakeasy on-site. Guests can enjoy stylish fall-themed decorations in and around the hotel leading up to Halloween weekend.

3. Hawthorne Hotel, Salem, Massachusetts

For a creepy, but fun, Halloween getaway, head to Hawthorne Hotel in Salem, Massachusetts. Salem has a haunted, witchy past, and the same is said for the Hawthorne Hotel, which is considered to be one of the most haunted hotels in the nation. On October 28th, the hotel will host its annual Halloween Party, which it has been throwing since 1991. There are three floors of music, DJs, food, costumes, and even psychics. We don't know about you, but a haunted past and a Halloween party sounds like a great combination for spooky fun.

4. The Great Wolf Lodge – Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin

The Great Wolf Lodge – Wisconsin Dells, like the other Great Wolf Lodge Resorts, jumps into the Halloween spirit with wonderful Halloween decorations and events for families. The lobby is decked out in jack o’lanterns -- and, sometimes, larger-than-life balloon spiders. Families who visit in October can join in on the Howl-o-Ween activities that provide kids with goodie bags and the opportunity to trick-or-treat, not to mention participate in spooky story time, the Monster Bash Dance, and a parade. Don’t forget to pack the kiddo’s Halloween costumes before heading out to this Great Wolf Lodge!

5. Woodloch Pines Resort, Hawley, Pennsylvania

Back in the early 1990s, Woodloch Pines Resort came up with a time-honored way to celebrate Halloween -- a haunted hayride. Guests are able to hop on a hayride and ride through 15 scenes that last around two minutes each and experience a sensation of thrills and chills. The scenes are a mix of currently trending horror stories, films, and TV shows, as well as old-school scary stuff like "Lost Boys." It takes about four to five months of planning to create the haunted hayride, but the result is worth it. In addition to the haunted hayrides available every weekend from October through November, there are also the Halloween-themed Olympics, the Halloween Scavenger Hunts, parades, trick-or-treating, and much more at this resort.

6. Grand Hotel

Upon check-in, guests receive their first clues, and in the evening, they can enjoy a performance that will kick-off the mystery. That night, they’ll receive more clues slid under their room doors. Saturday, guests will explore the hotel for clues and suspects, then indulge in interactive experiences like crime scene investigations and interrogations. On Sunday, guests will catch the murderer! The package for the event includes accommodations, breakfast, and five-course dinners daily.
