Great resale shops in Los Angeles

Rodeo Drive, seen here, is a haven for L.A. shopping -- but so are the city's resale shops

Everyone knows that Los Angeles is a haven for shopping. From designer boutiques like Chanel and Louis Vuitton, to top department stores like Barney’s and Neiman Marcus, to famous streets like Rodeo Drive and Melrose Avenue that are devoted only to shopping — this city offers the best of the best.

But what not everyone knows is that L.A. also has the best resale shopping in the country. Think about it: celebrities who can’t be seen in anything twice, TV shows with entire warehouses filled with of-the-moment wardrobes, and stylish young celebutantes who always buy the latest trends. So what do they do when a new fashion season kicks off? They donate their wardrobes to local resale shops, where their trash becomes your treasure.

We’ll share two of our faves after the jump.

Here are two favorites resale shops:

1) P.J London in Brentwood.

P.J. London was one of the first resale shops to open in Los Angeles, and is still the place to go for the best bargains on top quality clothes, shoes, purses, and jewelry. On any given day you may find a great Stella McCartney piece, a Dolce & Gabbana dress, a Gucci jacket, or a pair of great Jimmy Choos or Manolo Blahniks. It’s also where to go to find emerging designers (after all, their clients are fashionistas), and you can even find a great tee shirt or pair of jeans. Why spend $200 on jeans, when you can find them here for $40? P.J. London is very discreet about where its clothes come from, but it’s well known that many celebrities supply the goods. New merchandise arrives daily. Stay nearby at Hotel Angeleno, in Brentwood.

  • P.J. London 11661 San Vicente Blvd, Los Angeles, 90049

2) Decades in Hollywood

Decades is probably the most famous resale store in the U.S.; owner Cameron Silver has even been featured in The New Yorker magazine. At Decades, the upstairs level is a boutique where you’ll find vintage couture from designers like Pucci, Chanel, YSL, and other classic, coveted designers. Downstairs is the regular resale store, called Decades Two, where you’ll find “au current” merchandise — all of the latest and greatest, much of which you’d find still showing at nearby Fred Segal. Stay nearby at the Sofitel Los Angeles.

  • Decades 8214 Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles, 90046
  • (323) 655-1960
