NEW on Oyster: Gorgeous Beach Hotels in the Dominican Republic and Mexico

See recent posts by Jane Reynolds

Every day, Oyster.com continues to grow by visiting more and more places and adding more and more hotels to the site. You may have noticed, but we recently revisited the Dominican Republic and Riviera Maya to check out the scenes in our favorite beach locales. And we also made out first trip to beautiful Cozumel. Even though saying goodbye to fun in the sun at the end of our visits was tough, we were excited to get back and share the gorgeous properties we saw with our fans. Check out some of our favorites from the D.R., Riviera Maya, and Cozumel that are brand-spanking NEW on Oyster!

The Hotel: Hotel B Cozumel

The view from Hotel B’s infinity pool is hard to beat.

Hotel B has everything a hotel needs to draw a young, hip crowd: a lounge-y beach, spacious rooms with great amenities, a gorgeous infinity-edge pool, a hopping bar with great mojitos, and yoga classes several times a week. Everything here is trendy, but that doesn’t come at the cost of sustainability, social responsibility, or local culture — the property is decorated top to bottom with traditional Mexican touches with a contemporary twist and crafts made by Mexican artisans. Add this to great rates and a fabulous restaurant, and you’ve got a resort that’s a very attractive alternative to the dozens of all-inclusive properties lining this part of the island.

Guests of the Eden Roc have access to the small — but serene — beach at the exclusive Caleton Beach Club.

The Eden Roc is one of the most high-tech properties in the Dominican Republic, and is located in the gated Cap Cana community — which has a Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course, marina, and beach club. The 34 colorful suites (11 are open so far) are clustered around a small, man-made lagoon and feature elegant decor (picture four-poster beds, intricate floor tiling, and spacious bathrooms). Up-to-date amenities include iPad-controlled lights, sound systems, and TVs with numerous channels in Spanish and English. Suites also come with small pools and golf carts for getting around the property.

The sexy Rock Star Suite at the Hard Rock is often rented out for parties.

The massive, all-inclusive Hard Rock is a sleek option in Punta Cana, located on a gorgeous stretch of white-sand beach. Getting from one place to the other on the sprawling property can take some time, but the hotel provides a shuttle. In addition, the size allows the resort to have broad appeal — it attracts families, couples, and partiers. The signature Hard Rock rocker vibe can be seen throughout the hotel, whether it be in the music-themed decor or the free guitar rentals. On-site amenities such as tennis, golf, and horseback riding help keep guests busy, and there are plenty of dining options as well.

Esencia’s Aroma Spa features gorgeous treatment rooms with views of the hotel’s lush grounds.

The former estate of an Italian duchess, the ultra-luxurious Esencia oozes Mediterranean elegance and style. With just 29 rooms spread over 50 acres, the property feels intimate and exclusive, and shows a thorough attention to detail in everything from the services to the decor. Upscale, contemporary rooms are housed in two-story buildings set amid lush tropical grounds, and feature lots of high-end amenities, including pre-loaded iPods, Molton Brown toiletries, and in some, even private plunge pools. The gorgeous spa, excellent restaurant, and relaxing pools with ocean views are highlights.
