Off the Beaten Path Resorts in Fiji
Imagine traveling over 6,000 miles to reach the secluded white sand beaches of your dreams in Fiji, only to arrive and find… wall-to-wall sun loungers and crowds of tourists. While some destinations in Fiji have become a victim of their own success, there are still plenty of off-the-beaten-path resorts where you can live out your desert island fantasies.

COMO Laucala Island

The name says it all at The Remote Resort, a little slice of paradise tucked away on its own private 64-acre peninsula on the northern Fiji island of Vanua Levu. With just eight villas spread across 64 acres, privacy is guaranteed—there will only ever be a maximum of 20 guests on the property at any time. Embrace the “stranded on a desert island” feel with the resort’s castaway beach picnic experience, where you’ll be dropped off on a remote beach with lunch and left alone for 2.5 hours.

Accessible only by private plane, you’re sure to find seclusion at Vatuvara Private Island Resort. This lush island has a mere three private villas available, each with its own heated infinity pool and massage room. Guests can travel to the remote 800-acre island aboard the resort’s private plane from either Suva or Nada (Fiji’s international airport.) This resort is adults-only, allowing guests aged 16 and older to maintain a peaceful atmosphere.

Situated on Beqa Island, known for its traditional fire-walking ceremonies, Beqa Lagoon Resort has just 25 beachfront Fijian-style villas (called bures) spread throughout 10 acres of lush tropical gardens. To reach the resort, take a boat across the Beqa Lagoon. Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted by villagers singing a traditional welcome song before being whisked away to your open plan, air-conditioned bure.
The Great Beqa Reef surrounds the resort, offering some of the best snorkeling in the world, with depths ranging from 15 feet to 100 feet.

Vanua Levu, Fiji’s second largest island, is nicknamed “Fiji’s hidden paradise.” Tucked away on this remote island, you’ll discover Koro Sun Resort, an off-the-beaten-path gem offering overwater villas, traditional hotel rooms, and rainforest villas.
Located in the less-touristed northern region of Fiji, this resort provides an escape from the crowds, along with lower rates than some of the more popular hotels.

If you don’t want to fly all the way to Fiji only to listen to screaming kids splashing in the pool, opt for Matangi Private Island Resort. This adults-only, family-owned resort is set on a 240-acre, horseshoe-shaped private island.
There are eight bures and three unique treehouses to choose from tucked away along the pristine beach and framed by rainforest. We recommend the Treehouse Villa with Plunge Pool, which has an unbeatable location right on the beach.

Como Laucala Island is the ultimate Fiji escape if money is no object. Initially owned by the billionaire Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz, the island was previously only bookable if you knew the secret password (available only to Mateschitz’s inner circle). The Como Group now manages the resort, and it’s available to anyone who can afford the $6,100 nightly rate.
However, that steep price tag gives you access to just 25 villas spread across one of the world’s largest private islands. Of course, Laucala has its own private airstrip, making it easy to reach this far-flung destination.
