While many turn to blogs and guide books for vacation ideas, others find their dream trip on one of the many social media platforms. Instagram feeds flood with dreamy snapshots of spectacular mountain retreats, pristine beaches, and energetic cities waiting to be seen first-hand. Pinterest, too, is full of inspirational destination photos that can spark wanderlust. With that in mind, we dug deep and uncovered the most pinned destinations on our very own Pinterest page. While the Caribbean, U.S., Mexico, and Europe ranked high on the list, we decided to zoom in a little further and share the top 10 most pinned places within those regions.
The mere idea of a vacation in Cancun might conjure up images of mega-resorts, rowdy spring breakers and overflowing booze. And while that certainly is one side of it, there’s a different kind of vacation to be had here, too. Thousands of honeymooners, old couples, and families also flock to this south-of-the-border destination for its turquoise waters, beautiful stretches of sand, and peaceful and pampering properties. Cancun also happens to be a great jumping off point for visiting the Mayan ruins in Chichen Itza and Tulum, taking your beach vacation to the next level of cool.

Those traveling from the U.S. need not escape to the Caribbean or a far-flung island in French Polynesia to experience a tropical paradise. Stretching about 120 miles off the southern tip of Florida, the Florida Keys will likely have what you’re looking for, including warm temperatures and calm, photo-worthy waters. Snorkeling and scuba diving are popular here — the Keys are situated on the third-largest barrier reef in the world, after all. Outdoor enthusiasts will also have an opportunity to enjoy activities like tennis, golf, kayaking, fishing, birdwatching, and dolphin spotting. And with more than 800 islands, there are plenty of places to discover each season. For example, Key West is the most popular destination and offers a little bit of everything — snorkeling, fishing, lively nightlife, and kitschy souvenir shops. The largest key, Key Largo, is also popular and features numerous golf courses, while Islamorada is the most luxurious island, with high-end shops, restaurants, luxury hotels, and plenty of opportunities to go deep sea fishing and boating.

New York City is many things to many people — a romantic getaway for couples, a place to party for old and new friends, and a spot to explore museums for families, to name a few. A melting pot of tourists and locals from around the world, the Big Apple is connected by an easy-to-navigate subway system that sometimes (if you’re lucky) features music and dance shows. Make your way to Times Square, an overwhelming pedestrian-friendly area that’s packed with Broadway theaters, glittering billboards, streetside characters, and a lot of crowds. If relaxation is what you’re after, head to Central Park instead, where you’ll find well-manicured lawns for picnicking and jogging. Other can’t-miss neighborhoods include Union Square (for its farmer’s market), Fifth Avenue (for its high-end designer boutiques), the Upper East Side (for its grand, iconic museums), the East Village (for its hopping dive bars), the Meatpacking District (for its swanky clubs and lounges), and SoHo, the West Village, and the Lower East (all for their indie boutiques and trendy eateries).

The Caribbean as a whole might have ranked as our most popular destination on Pinterest, but the Dominican Republic was our most pinned destination within the Caribbean. There’s a lot of to love about this destination, from its beautiful natural landscape, warm weather, and convenient flights (it’s just over two hours from Miami) to its reasonable hotel rates, friendly locals, and colonial architecture. Those seeking a lively nightlife scene will find it in one of the clubs that pulsate with merengue and bachata music. Some must-dos for every itinerary: the 27 Waterfalls of Damajagua, the white-sand beaches of Punta Cana, and the ultra-lush Samana Peninsula — all of which make excellent Instagram or Pinterest additions.
Dominican Republic Hotel Pick:
Folks heading to Vegas are likely looking for debauchery — and Sin City delivers, with plenty of casinos, clubs with bottle service, pool parties, and amazing live performances. Most visitors head to the Strip with the hope of winning big — the three-and-a-half-mile stretch is lined with luxury casino resorts that don’t skimp on over-the-top features (think of the Mirage’s erupting volcano and the Bellagio’s dancing fountains). That’s not to say you can’t have a relaxing — even family-friendly — vacation in Vegas, though. Downtown Vegas is quieter and less bedazzled, but also comes with budget rooms and affordable eats.
Las Vegas Hotel Pick:
England’s capital is oozing with charm from corner to corner, and its gorgeous landmarks — including Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, and St. Paul’s Cathedral — are instantly recognizable around the world. The residential roads are equally picturesque, with grand Victorian villas, pastel-hued townhouses, and charming mews houses. Speaking of things that are photogenic, you might find yourself getting snap-happy over small details, like red phone booths and buses. But wait, there’s more. Many of the London’s world-class museums are free, too. And in addition to its abundant cultural and historical landmarks, the city boasts a diverse dining scene. Visitors will find markets dedicated to street food, excellent curry houses, and some seriously swanky, fine-dining venues as well. Of course, afternoon tea in a landmark London hotel is a must, as is drinking in a quaint pub, speakeasy, or rooftop bar. Spring is especially pleasant, when the trees are in full bloom, but there’s no bad time to visit this European destination.
London Hotel Pick:
Beautiful beaches, stunning natural wonders, warm year-round temperatures, and recreational activities galore lure about seven million tourists to Hawaii each year. However, special features — like hula dancing, ukulele music, and floral leis — help it stand out against other beach destinations. Plus, each of Hawaii’s six major islands — the Big Island, Kauai, Lanai, Maui, Moloaki, and Oahu — has something uniquely different to offer visitors. For example, Oahu is the most populated island and is well-known for Waikiki Beach as well as upscale designer stores, a range of cuisines, and a bustling nightlife scene. Maui is all about luxury hotels and beaches made for windsurfing, snorkeling, diving, and surfing. And the smaller island of Kauai, known as the Garden Isle, is lush and draws visitors for Waimea Canyon, the Pacific’s largest canyon.
Hawaii Hotel Pick:
U.S. travelers looking for a year-round beach destination can’t go wrong with Florida. Much like the Caribbean, it boasts warm temperatures, gorgeous beaches, and a variety of cities for everyone, from families to rowdy bachelor and bachelorette party groups. The fashion-forward Miami, for example, is a modern metropolis with couture shopping, A-list clubs, renowned art galleries, and innovative cuisine. Orlando, on the other hand, welcomes tens of millions of tourists annually for one major reason: Walt Disney World. Then there’s Fort Lauderdale, which attracts a more affluent crowd looking for sun and quiet days on the beach. The city, dubbed the “Venice of America” for its canals, is also packed with bars, restaurants, and shops. The options are endless.
Florida Hotel Pick:
No matter what time of year you visit, Barcelona serves up vibrant nightlife, excellent cuisine, and beautiful Gothic and Modernist architecture. All of this, coupled with a great Mediterranean climate, gorgeous beaches, and charming neighborhoods, means this dynamic and multicultural city seemingly has it all. It also means you’ll likely find crowds everywhere you turn. But some attractions — including the Sagrada Familia cathedral, world-class MACBA museum, and the Barri Gotic neighborhood — are worth braving the tourist crowds for.
Barcelona Hotel Pick:
Foodies, art and architecture buffs, and families with kids will all appreciate a visit to Italy.
