Did You Know You Can Rent an Overwater Bungalow in Florida?
You don’t need to fly halfway around the world to stay in an overwater bungalow—your tropical escape awaits much closer to home. A small group of floating vacation rentals just launched in the Florida Keys, making the dream much more accessible.

Ombi
Located off the coast of Key Largo, Ombi’s three bungalows are only accessible by boat. Upon arrival, guests will be whisked to their private floating retreat, where they will find floor-to-ceiling windows, a comfortable king-size bed, a walk-in shower, and a cozy sitting nook. The bungalows have hot water and spa-like bathrooms. A welcome basket stocked with local treats and a bottle of wine awaits, and drinking water is also provided.
The bungalows are designed so guests can spend most of their time outdoors. They feature a private deck with Adirondack chairs, a hammock, and a foldaway table perfect for alfresco meals. You can jump in and swim directly off the dock or explore the pristine waters around the bungalow with the provided kayak, paddleboard, and snorkeling gear. You might see bottlenose dolphins, manatees, or even a sea turtle.
You don’t have to disconnect (unless you want to—bungalows are stocked selection of board games) as each floating suite is equipped with Wi-Fi, a TV, and Bluetooth indoor and outdoor speakers.
Embrace the solitude by having a gourmet dinner delivered to your doorstep, or bring your own food and utilize the kitchenette to make your own meal. A breakfast package with fresh pastries and coffee can also be added.
Although the goal is to escape from the outside world, you won’t be marooned at Ombi if you want to leave. You could kayak to Key Largo in about 30 minutes, or arrange for a boat transfer.
Rates for Ombi start at $850 per night, or you can go almost all-inclusive with the Premium Bungalow Retreat package for $1,450 per night. This package includes a fully stocked drinks fridge, a gourmet dinner for two, an upgraded welcome basket with local treats and a bottle of Champagne, daily breakfast for two, and one round-trip boat transfer per day.
