Bottom Line

Ideal for guests who appreciate luxury surroundings with creative flair, Asheville’s edition of the Grand Bohemian Autograph Collection delivers. The 104-room Tudor-style property is conveniently located directly across from the Biltmore Estate. Cozy rustic charm is seen throughout, with taxidermy, stacked stone, and candlelight. There's a restaurant and lounge hosting live music twice a week, a spa offering locally inspired treatments, and an on-site art gallery with work by local and international artists. Guest rooms are modern and plush, with stunning bathrooms, unique artwork, and velvet-tufted headboards -- but compared to many surrounding hotels, the price tag is high and there is no pool.

Oyster Hotel Review

Grand Bohemian Hotel Asheville, Autograph Collection

Scene

Luxury hunting lodge motif

The three-story Tudor-style building greets guests with leafy trees and colorful flower patches near the entrance, while the dramatic courtyard area has huge medieval-style chandeliers, topiaries, and deer taxidermy. With wood floors and ceilings, antler chandeliers, and a massive stacked stone fireplace as the centerpiece of the lobby, the “Grand” portion of this particular Bohemian has a distinctly mountain vibe compared to others in the luxury chain. One of the most appealing features of the decor is the dedicated gallery with an array of original paintings by local artists. The entire hotel smells pleasantly of burning candles and even the elevators are uniquely adorned with artistic pieces of burlap. Every wall is adorned with some token of nature-devoted decor – a twig-covered light fixture, antler collage, or strategically placed piece of taxidermy.

Location

Across the road from Biltmore Estate, close to downtown Asheville

Located inside Biltmore Village, the Grand Bohemian is directly across from Biltmore Estate and within easy walking distance – 10 minutes or less – to all of the Village shops and restaurants. Downtown Asheville is about two-and-a-half miles up the road on Highway 25 -- a five-minute drive without traffic, but in high season (summer and autumn) up to 15 minutes or more. In the other direction on Highway 25, Biltmore Forest is five to 10 minutes away, and several trailheads to explore the surrounding mountains are less than 15 minutes away by car.

Rooms

Unique bathrooms and loads of rustic charm

Guest rooms include a variety of Standard Rooms, or Manor House rooms in a separate building across the street. Executive King Junior and One Bedroom Suites are also available. There is a plush bed in every room, adorned with a velvet headboard, textured throw blanket, and more pillows than one could possibly need. All rooms and suites also have original artwork, leather armchairs, and rustic wood furniture, as well as large flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, and Bose CD clock radios. Most bathrooms have showers with rainfall showerheads and frosted glass doors, and separate soaking tubs with high-end toiletries that include a set of bath salts. Soft candle-style lights and carved wood vanities, plus saloon windows over the tubs, lend yet more panache. Executive King Suites each offer a separate living room with sitting area, while One Bedroom Suites (the largest available style) have living rooms with sofa beds, second TVs, and adjoining dining rooms, plus mini-fridges; Number 232 has a balcony.
