Bottom Line

A well-maintained, family-run hotel, Hotel Tony is located between Filopappos Hill and Syngrou Avenue. The property is close to Syngrou/Fix Metro Station and the Dora Stratou Greek Dances Theatre. It’s a warm and welcoming place to stay, and the garden is picturesque with plenty of pretty potted plants. Tony, the owner, is quite a character himself -- a larger than life man,  and very funny -- whose tastes in furnishing and decor matches his personality. There are very few amenities here, but rooms feature kitchenettes and large flat-screen TVs.

Hotel Tony

Scene

Swirling mosaic staircase and a warm, family-like atmosphere

Popular with families and couples looking to explore the tourist sights and sounds of Athens, Hotel Tony is a clean and comfortable choice.  The staircase is a real stunner, decked out in black and white mosaics; it snakes around like a monochrome hydra. Various Greek statues and busts are dotted around the place -- look out for the eccentric horse’s head. There's a lovely garden, but otherwise common areas are very few.

Location

Right by the new Acropolis Museum, and a 5-minute walk from Syngrou Fix Metro Station

Located North of the Plaka and at the back of the Acropolis, the neighborhood where Hotel Tony is situated looks fairly quiet and residential. Athens’ famous sights -- such as Plaka, Thissio, and Monastiraki -- are around a 15-minute walk away, while Filopappos Hill is also nearby. Restaurants, bars, and shops are within a 5-minute walk as well. It’s about a 12-minute walk to the southeast edge of Plaka, where there’s grocery shops, laundry, plenty of bakeries, and some restaurants. The only downside to the location is that it’s a pretty steep walk uphill to get to the hotel.

Rooms

Wildly decorated with self-catering facilities

Some of the rooms are decorated in a crazy fashion, with red-and-white checkerboard flooring and red-and-white striped walls. It’s not far off from what one would imagine staying in a candy shop in Alice in Wonderland would be like. Other rooms are more muted, with brown and beige diamond patterned feature walls. The air-conditioned (for a fee) units at the Tony include flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and soundproofed windows. A kitchenette in each includes a tea- and coffeemaker, microwave oven, and fridge. Bathrooms are decorated in chic black and white mosaics and have free, own-brand toiletries. The shower is huge, and the heated towel rails are nice perks.
