Bottom Line

InnAthens is a mid-range boutique hotel set in the back secret garden of a restaurant in central Athens, a four-minute walk to Syntagma Square. The location is ideal for exploring the city by foot, as there are several dining, shopping, city attractions, and public transport options within walking distance. The entire hotel features a contemporary design with minimalist, artsy interiors. This includes the 20 guest rooms, which each feature individual decor and amenities like flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and free Wi-Fi. The two main highlights here include the central atrium with lovely plants and seating areas to relax in, as well as the free Greek buffet and a la carte breakfast. As an alternative, travelers can also consider Plaka Hotel, with similar features (including rooftop bar) for lower rates; though it's not nearly as modern.

InnAthens

Scene

Boutique hotel with artsy interiors and a pretty central atrium

InnAthens is interesting in that it doesn't have a traditional street entrance. It's actually located in the back garden of a restaurant, giving it a secret and exclusive appeal. It's housed in a century-old building that was renovated in 2015 to create a modern and minimalist boutique hotel. Most of the furnishings are custom-made from recyclable industrial material, giving the decor a slightly artsy feel. The reception area looks like a high-end art museum gift shop, while the L-shaped sofa in the lobby lounge and random collections of books and curios bring a bit of life into the room.

The central atrium is the highlight of the hotel. The lemon tree, vines hanging from the walls, and several surrounding potted plants create a calm and peaceful environment in which to relax. There are a few different seating spots in the atrium, including a large central wooden table around the lemon tree, along with smaller cafe-style tables, benches, and a bar with stools. The inside breakfast area is another contemporary space, with custom-made wooden tables and chairs and a long bar with stools placed along the window wall. Overall the atmosphere is relaxed, attracting mostly couples, as well as a few business travelers due to the central location.
