Both the Parthenon and Acropolis can be reached in less than 15 minutes by foot. The rooftop lounge is the highlight of the hotel with its comfortable seating and stunning views of the Acropolis. Guest rooms are on the small side however and some still have tube-style TVs. The free breakfast buffet offers Greek items like feta cheese and olives. There’s no pool or fitness center, and guests looking for posher accommodations may want to check out the similarly priced Y Hotel, which has chic guest rooms and a fitness center but no rooftop bar.
Oyster Hotel Review
An understated lobby area, with hotel offering spectacular rooftop views
Sitting on a street lined with shops and stores in a lively, popular section of Plaka, the hotel has a small wooden front desk and a lobby with brown couches, green-and-white checkered floors, and a luggage scale. A modest business area looks like a home office with a single computer and printer and a shelf with a small library of books for guests to peruse. The hallway decor is uninspiring, but the views from the rooftop bar are spectacular. Weather permitting, guests can enjoy evening cocktails while sitting on big wicker chairs and gazing at the Acropolis.
On busy street in Plaka that's less than a 15-minute walk from the Parthenon, among other sights
The hotel is located on a busy street less than a 15-minute walk from the Parthenon and Acropolis and near several other popular locales like the Museum of Greek Folk Art and the Temple of Olympian Zeus, both to the south. There are plenty of restaurants, cafes, and shops nearby as well, including Monastiraki Flea Market. The hotel is also two blocks from the Monastiraki metro, with direct lines to Athens International Airport and Piraeus Port, and is a short walk from Syntagma Square station, where guests can take a bus to the airport as well.
Small rooms with varying decor; some feature views of the city
Rooms are generally small with neutral walls and light-wood furnishings. Decor does vary a bit, from deep blue curtains to teal bedspreads to whimsical pillows featuring quotes from Greek philosophers. Guests recommend reserving a higher room with views of the Acropolis, Mount Lycabettus, or the neighborhood of Plaka in general. Bathrooms were updated in 2012 and have standup showers or shower/tub combinations. Some rooms have flat-screen TVs, while others still have tube sets. All rooms have mini-fridges and free Wi-Fi.
Rooftop bar with stunning views of the Acropolis and free breakfast buffet with Greek items
Free breakfast featuring a Greek Corner with feta cheese, olives, and pies is served daily in a restaurant with wrap-around windows looking out at city life. The rooftop bar serves cocktails and snacks. Big wicker chairs are on hand with comfy blue cushions for guests to sit on while enjoying the views of the Acropolis. Indoors, a small business center has a computer and printer available to guests 24 hours a day.
