Bottom Line

Hyatt Place Atlanta/Buckhead is a three-pearl business and leisure hotel with 171 rooms. Each room has either two double beds or a king-size bed, plus a sleeper sofa in a sectioned-off living area for privacy. While this makes the hotel a good choice for families or groups of friends, the main clientele are business travelers, and that's reflected in the amenities. There's a 24-hour business center, a 24-hour gym, a meeting room, free Wi-Fi, free remote printing, and a free shuttle to anywhere within a two-mile radius of the hotel. There's also an outdoor pool, but it's on the small side and the parking-lot views are less than appealing. Vacationers wanting pool time may be better off at the nearby Wingate by Wyndham Atlanta/Buckhead, which has a nicer pool and a hot tub.

Oyster Hotel Review

Hyatt Place Atlanta/Buckhead

Scene

Mid-range business chain hotel with simple interiors and a small outdoor patio

Hyatt Place Atlanta Buckhead is a mid-range business hotel situated in a contemporary, eight-story red-brick building. The lobby and common areas are simple and borderline generic, with heavy use of browns and gray spruced up with pops of canary yellow and navy in furnishings and wall art. A combination of recessed lighting and wall and ceiling light fixtures give the open-space area a warm feel, and there are lots of tables and chairs for sitting and dining at the simple lobby restaurant. Additional seating can be found on the tiny back patio, where there are a couple of patio chairs and tables and a few potted plants that add life to what could otherwise feel drab. Tourists stay here, but the bulk of guests are business travelers.

Location

On Peachtree Street, in the heart of Buckhead and a 10-minute walk to the nearest MARTA station

This hotel is located on Peachtree Street, the main drag of the affluent area of Buckhead. The area is notable for its tree-lined streets, high-rise commercial buildings, and high-end hotels along with malls, shops, and restaurants. The Buckhead MARTA Station is a 10-minute walk away; from here it's around a 15-minute ride to downtown. Attractions within walking distance include the Atlanta History Center and Lenox Square Mall, each about a 15-minute walk away. Further afield, the Atlanta Botanical Garden, the High Museum of Art, the  World of Coca-Cola, the Centennial Olympic Park, and the CNN Center are all around a half-hour away by subway or 10 to 15 minutes by car. Getting to the Georgia Aquarium and Georgia Dome takes just a little longer. It's about a half-hour drive to the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, depending on traffic.

Rooms

Streamlined rooms with wet bars, big flat-screen TVs, and semi-separate living and sleeping areas

This hotel offers a variety of room types, though there's not much difference across categories save for bed configurations, though rooms on higher floors sometimes command higher rates. Decor is generic, but not unpleasant. Expect gray carpets, wooden headboards and furniture, and muted gray upholstery and drapes, plus simple framed art prints on the walls. The layout is such that guests traveling in groups can get a little privacy while business travelers get a sense of delineation between sleeping areas and work/living spaces. Beds are placed in the back and sofa-sleepers and desks are in a semi-partitioned front room. All room types come with either two double beds or a singular king-size bed (except for Accessible Rooms, which only have king beds) plus desks and fold-out sofa beds. Amenities include 42-inch flat-screen TVs, multi-port charging/plug stations, free Wi-Fi and remote printing, irons and ironing boards, and wet bars with single-serve coffeemakers and mini-fridges. Bathrooms are snug and have shower/tub combos (except in accessible units, which come with either a roll-in shower or a bath), and KenetMD toiletries and hairdryers are provided.
