Bottom Line

This upper-middle-range property is a high-rise with 102 condominium-style rooms that are each outfitted with full kitchens and writing desks. The hotel prides itself on a high level of tech functionality, and the in-room computers have software that allows for ordering room service and other requests. The property is centrally located in downtown Atlanta, within walking distance of the financial district and a number of attractions, and is situated across the street from public transit. There have been a few complaints about malfunctions with the room keycard system, and some rooms can be noisy due to highway proximity.

Oyster Hotel Review

Twelve Downtown, Autograph Collection

Scene

Business travelers and leisure tourists, particularly families, come to this elegant high-rise

Because of its placement downtown near the financial district in Atlanta, the property attracts business travelers as well as families seeking accommodations for groups. Exposed concrete throughout the eleven-story glass-exterior building lends an air of '70s brutalism, softened by design-oriented finishes like dark wood paneling, elegant leather couches in the lobby, and recessed lighting from the tall ceilings. The bar and restaurant are spacious and somewhat blandly decorated in black and gray with touches of red fabric above the bar and on outdoor umbrellas; there are private dining areas sectioned off with white curtains.

Location

Centrally located in downtown Atlanta across the street from public transit

The Civic Center MARTA station (the city’s public transit train) is directly across the street from the hotel, and gives easy access to the Atlanta airport (20 minutes' travel time, no transfers necessary). The property is located downtown alongside corporate office buildings and other condominiums. Center city attractions like the Georgia Aquarium and the Children’s Museum are within a few blocks -- about a 10-minute walk to each.

Rooms

Elegant, if sober, suites in black and white, all with full kitchens

One- and Two-Bedroom Suites here are simple, condominium-style affairs with leather headboards, contemporary hanging ceiling lights, and exposed concrete ceilings. The color scheme is mainly beige and white with dark wood and occasional pops of blue. There are desktop computers in every room for guests to check email and browse the Internet. The computers also utilize a system where guests can order food, drinks, and make service requests straight from the software. All suites have full-size kitchens with stainless steel appliances that include full fridges, stoves with electric burners, dishwashers, microwaves, and toasters. Some of the One-Bedroom Suites consist of a divided studio with a half-wall separating the sleeping from the living area; select rooms have sleeper couches in the living area. Bathrooms have tubs and separate stall showers. All suites have balconies.

Features

Outdoor rooftop pool, multiple meeting rooms, and a fitness center

The fitness center, with its floor-to-ceiling windows taking up one wall, is of moderate size and contains a good handful of weight machines, some free weights, and several each of treadmills, ellipticals, and stationary bikes. There are plenty of meeting rooms on the property, many of them equipped with digital projectors. An outdoor rooftop pool gives full views of the city, and is pleasingly wedged between the top halves of neighboring buildings.
