Bottom Line

Of the three W hotels in Atlanta, the W Midtown has the most toned down design. Upscale amenities -- including a restaurant by Jean-George and chic lobby bar -- remain, but the pool is less scene-y and more family-friendly than at other locations. Even the hip Whiskey Park bar on-site (a branch of the Gerber Group) maintains a cool, sophisticated vibe without being too pretentious. Large rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows and the signature W purple color palate. This is one of the trendier spots in Midtown, but is known for a mellow atmosphere. Those hoping to party all night may prefer the W Atlanta Buckhead.

W Atlanta – Midtown

Location

Mellow Midtown location near the heart of the Cultural Arts District

This W Atlanta is in Midtown, near Peachtree Street and the heart of the Atlanta's Cultural Arts District. The nearby MARTA station (about a 10-minute walk away) provides access to some of Atlanta's main attractions, like the World of Coca-Cola and Buckhead, the city's happening nightlife quarter. The area is dense with restaurants and shopping, and several of the area's cultural attractions -- including the Woodruff Arts Center and the High Museum of Art -- are within walking distance.

Located directly north of Downtown, Midtown feels both an extension of the financial district and the opposite of it. Modern corporate buildings and renovated mansions share the same space in this somewhat eclectic area, also a hub for Atlanta's gay community. The Fox Theatre, the Atlanta Botanical Garden, the Piedmont Park, the Woodruff Arts Center, and the High Museum of Art, make this one of the top tourist areas in town -- but without the crowds and the traffic of Downtown.

  • 20-minute drive to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, or 35 minutes via public transportation
  • 2-minute walk to the Woodruff Arts Center
  • 5-minute walk to the beautiful Piedmont Park (home to the Atlanta Botanical Garden)
  • 9-minute walk to Arts Center MARTA Rail Station
  • 9-minute walk to the High Museum of Art
  • 5-minute drive to Atlantic Station, one of the city's largest shopping and residential areas, or 20 minutes via public transportation
  • 5-minute drive to the Atlanta Civic Center, or 18 minutes via public transportation
  • 10-minute drive to Georgia Aquarium, or 25 minutes via public transportation
  • 10-minute drive to the World of Coca-Cola Museum, or 25 minutes via public transportation
  • 10-minute drive to Centennial Olympic Park and the Fountain of Rings, or 23 minutes via public transportation
  • 10-minute drive to the Georgia State Capitol, or 25 minutes via public transportation
  • 11-minute drive to CNN Center Complex, or 23 minutes via public transportation
  • 11-minute drive to the Georgia World Congress Center, or 30 minutes via public transportation
  • 12-minute drive to the Atlanta Zoo, or 38 minutes via public transportation
