Located on leafy grounds, the exterior building of the Hampton Inn Austin - Arboretum Northwest is uninspiring and has an institutional look. The hotel lobby in contrast has a cozy and pleasant feel, with country house inspired decor, wooden floors, stone walls, exposed beams, a few attractive pieces of old-fashioned furniture, and wooden sliding doors. There’s plenty of seating in the lobby area, with tables and chairs arranged in cafe-style clusters as well as comfy sofas. The busy patterned carpets in the corridors, however, look drab and dated and are due for an update. The hotel attracts many business travelers because of its proximity to the company offices of many major corporations, but families are also frequent guests, thanks to the hotel’s family-friendly policy.

Hampton Inn Austin - Arboretum Northwest is situated outside of central Austin in a quiet, leafy neighborhood close to many restaurants and malls as well as the MoPac Expressway. It’s a 25-minute drive to downtown Austin from here. The offices of a few major companies are located close by, like IBM and National Instruments both within a five-minute driving radius. The Arboretum, an upmarket mall, is only a five-minute drive away, while the Domain outdoor mall with its many upscale shops and restaurants is a six-minute drive from the hotel. The Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is about a half-hour drive.

The guest rooms at Hampton Inn Austin - Arboretum Northwest are decorated in a classic style: The simple pine furniture contrasts with the dark brown hue of the carpet, curtains, and accent walls. Though the rooms are spacious, some can seem cramped thanks to low ceilings and an overabundance of furniture. Tasteful photography prints decorate the walls, while floor lamps and armchairs provide a cozy touch. The bathrooms are pleasant and spacious, with marble-topped sinks, shower/tub combos, and attractive floor tiles in beige marble tones. All rooms have air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, coffee- and tea-making facilities, mini-fridges, free Wi-Fi, work desks with ergonomic chairs, and Neutrogena products in the bathrooms. Accessible rooms are also available.

Guests are served a free American buffet breakfast in the breakfast room each morning with a variety of hot dishes like omelets, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits and gravy, French toast, bagels, cinnamon rolls, and donuts. The outdoor pool is exceptionally clean and filled with salt water. But the fitness center is tiny and equipped with only a few machines and weights for a basic workout. The hotel offers free business services like fax, photocopying, and printing, as well as a business center and meeting and event space. Basic Wi-Fi is available for free throughout the hotel, but guests who require a higher bandwidth can request this for an extra fee.
