H on Smith Hotel

H Hotel is a modern urban hotel located in downtown Darwin. The lobby isn't much more than a functional space to check in but does have a comfy couch and chairs on which to relax. There are both indoor and open-air common areas at this hotel. The hotel interiors are minimalist and stylish with soft blue ambient lighting, and large striking photo prints of the rugged Australian outback on display throughout. dBar and Restaurant is bright and airy with glass frontage and a view of the pool. There is both an indoor and an outdoor dining area, as well as bar-side seating. The swimming pool is medium-size, but long enough for laps and there are plenty of lounge chairs laid out. The setting around the pool is a little bare as there is little greenery or shade. Business facilities are simple, with just one small meeting room and a poorly equipped business center. The hotel is most popular with couples and business travelers.

H Hotel is located along Smith Street in downtown Darwin, just a few minutes' walk from plenty of great dining and nightlife options. Popular attractions such as the Crocosaurus Cove reptile park, BCC Cinemas, and shopping centers are all less than a 10-minute walk away. Next door to the hotel is a large grocery store and there is bus stop a two-minute walk away. Darwin's most popular beachfront destinations, Mindil Beach and Darwin Wharf Precinct, are both around a five- to 10-minute drive from the hotel. Mindil Beach is a long white-sand beach that features lots of beachfront eateries. A large open-air bazaar that sells goods and food is held at Mindil Beach biweekly from April to October. Darwin Wharf Precinct also has oceanfront restaurants and bars, as well as a water park and a convention center. The airport takes around 20 minutes to reach from the hotel. 

Rooms at the H Hotel are clean, streamlined, and feature contemporary stylings. Room types range from compact and minimalist Superior Rooms to spacious Executive Suites that feature lounge areas. Interiors are understated yet stylish, with gray carpets and matching curtains, clean white walls decorated with small framed artworks and photographs, and light colored wood veneer furniture. Bright pops of color throughout help add some warmth to the otherwise neutral space, with dark red bed runners and throw pillows. All rooms are outfitted with comfortable beds, work tables and chairs, and small wardrobes. Higher category rooms add brightly colored upholstered armchairs and sofas. Standard amenities include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs with cable channels, iPod Docks, minibars, coffee- and tea-making facilities, safes, and Free Wi-Fi. 

Bathrooms are clean and modern, but are a bit cramped in most room types. All have small vanities with porcelain sinks and mirrors, plus walk-in showers. Suite bathrooms are more spacious and feature deep soaking tubs. Hairdryers and toiletries are provided. Views from the rooms are either of the ocean or of downtown Darwin, and all rooms have large windows that let in plenty of natural light and airflow, though no room types feature balconies. The rooms are mostly well maintained, but guests often report that the air conditioners are noisy.

H Hotel has a good selection of leisure oriented features on offer. The swimming pool gets plenty of sun and has lounge chairs, along with covered tables and chairs. The setting around the pool is fairly urban with little greenery and shade, but the water is a great way to get some relief from the hot tropical weather. dBar and Restaurant is spacious and bright and airy, with full glass frontage and a view of the pool. Meals and room service are available all day and prices are reasonable. Breakfast is served in a buffet format and the spread is decent, but breakfast isn't included in most room packages. The fitness center is small, with just a few cardio and weightlifting machines. Business facilities include a small business center containing one desktop computer and a conference room that can fit 12 people. Reception is open 24/7 and there is a tour desk to help guests with arrangements. The hotel has free parking and free Wi-Fi throughout.
