Bottom Line

Cicada Luxury Townhouses is an upscale boutique property featuring 10 chic one- to three-bedroom Townhouses, Studios, and Suites. The property is located on a quiet side street adjacent to the bustling Petitenget Street, so the beach, great dining and nightlife, and trendy beach clubs are a short walk from the hotel. Rooms  feature fully equipped kitchens, comfy living rooms, and private pools. Facilities are limited to a stunning 25-meter lap pool surrounded by lush tropical greenery  and a functional lobby area. There is no  restaurant, though room service is available and an a la carte breakfast is included in most room packages. For something with more features, The Seminyak Beach Resort (a bit pricier) does offer beach frontage, two restaurants, a spa, a fitness center, and three pools.

Oyster Hotel Review

Cicada Luxury Townhouses

Scene

A modern boutique hotel in a tranquil tropical garden setting

Though the hotel is located downtown in one of Seminyak's trendiest neighborhoods, the property stays consistently quiet and tranquil. The hotel is tucked off the main strip along a small lane, and it feels far removed from the high energy of Seminyak's happening locales nearby. The property offers a sense of outdoor space not often found in boutique properties in downtown Seminyak, as the area is so densely populated. The architecture and aesthetic is ultra modern though it does incorporate some traditional Balinese elements and decorations throughout.  The setting features tropical greenery, which helps keep the temperature down and offers a nice respite from the tropical sun. Centered in the property is the long lap pool in a stunning garden setting. The pool is tiled in a rich natural green stone and there are lots of lounge chairs laid out.

This hotel is most popular with couples and families, but it also attracts groups of friends and single travelers. Townhouses come in one- to three-bedroom configurations, and the hotel is best suited for independent travelers who don't mind the lack of common facilities.

Location

On a quiet laneway along Petitenget Street, one of Seminyak's trendiest and most happening neighborhoods

Cicada Luxury Townhouses is located along a quiet laneway off the main Petitenget Street. The immediate area is known for its fine dining restaurants, sophisticated nightlife scene, and trendy beach clubs. Petitenget Beach is less than a five-minute walk from the hotel. This beach isn't safe for swimming due to heavy rip tides. It does offer some decent surfing waves and features great oceanfront restaurants and beach clubs including La Lucciola restaurant, The W Resort, and Potato Head Beach Club. Other popular restaurants nearby like Sea Circus, Biku, Sarong, and Bamboo, are all located within a five- to 10-minute walk from the hotel. Seminyak Square, KU DE TA, and Kayu Aya Street take about 15 minutes to reach on foot. Kuta Beach and the airport are around a 35-minute drive from the hotel, though driving times can take significantly longer depending on traffic.

Rooms

Stylish modern townhouses features comfy living rooms, well equipped kitchens, and plunge pools

The hotel offers contemporary Suites, Townhouses, and Studio Rooms, which range from one- to three-bedroom configurations. Each room type has slightly different features, decor, and layout, though a similar overall look, and all are generous on space with floor plans ranging from 540 to 4410 square feet (50 to 410 square meters). Interiors are stylish and have light colored walls, contemporary wood veneer furniture, and an eclectic mix of traditional and modern artwork and decorations on display. All units have plunge pools -- except for the Studio Rooftop which features a whirlpool instead of a pool. Standard amenities include air-conditioning, safes, free Wi-Fi, and flat-screen TVs with cable channels. Higher category rooms provide espresso machines and Bluetooth speakers. Kitchens are outfitted with stovetop burners, microwaves, kettles, full-size refrigerators, and mineral water dispensers. Furnishings include large wardrobes, work tables and chairs, comfy upholstered couches, dining room tables, and balcony seating. Large glass doors and windows let in plenty of natural light and airflow.

Bathrooms have plenty of space, and feature modern elegant stylings, natural stone tiles throughout, large vanities with twin sinks, deep soaking tubs, and rain showers. Toiletries and hairdryers are provided. Overall, the rooms are well maintained, but we did spot some minimal wear and tear. Guests should also note that some rooms are located a few minutes' walk from the main hotel compound, on a nearby laneway. These rooms are the most secluded and private, though they are a bit far from the main pool and lobby area.

A huge lap pool with a tropical garden setting, free in-room breakfast, and free Wi-Fi

Cicada Luxury Townhouses is a boutique hotel and has limited facilities. The best feature and the focal point of the hotel is a full-size 82 foot (25-meter) lap pool surrounded by a tropical garden with tall palms, bougainvilleas, and plenty of lounge chairs laid out on which to relax. Besides the main pool, the only other facility is a small and functional lobby area. The hotel lacks a restaurant facility, though this won't be too much of an issue for most guests, as there are so many great dining options nearby. Room service is available and an in-room a la carte breakfast is included in most room packages. Tour arrangements and vehicle rentals can be arranged through reception. The hotel offers a free shuttle service to nearby areas. Both free parking and free Wi-Fi are also provided.
