Bottom Line

Favehotel Kuta Square is an affordable value hotel located in downtown Kuta, less than a 10-minute walk from the beach. Features include a small cafe that serves a buffet breakfast plus lunch and dinner, as well as a small pool. The 95 rooms are compact and bright, featuring air-conditioning, safes, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. While beds get solid marks from previous guests, other frills are few. The hotel tends to be quiet throughout the day, as most of the hotel guests use the hotel as a place to sleep between days at the beach or exploring Kuta. The nearby EDEN Hotel is slightly more expensive, but features more facilities, large pools, and spacious contemporary rooms.

favehotel Kuta Square

Scene

Simple budget hotel right in the middle of Kuta's action

The favehotel Kuta Square is small and only has a couple of facilities, though it's a pleasantly modern place to crash right in the middle of busy Kuta. There aren't many common areas, and the hotel's lobby is merely a functional place where guests check in and move on. Still, decor is colorful, which helps make this feel a bit nicer than some of the budget flophouses in town. The hotel covers just the basics: there's a restaurant and a small pool, but little else. Lime Resto has a street view and is decorated with tan wallpaper, large photographs, and stylized graphics. The pool is small and partially covered, but features a open-air section and a wooden pool deck with a few lounge-chairs. However, most guests are out and about during the day, so the hotel stays far quieter than some of its competition in the area.

Location

In downtown Kuta, less than a 10-minute walk to beach, shopping, and Waterbom Bali

Favehotel Kuta Square is located on a small alleyway off of Jalan Pantai Kuta, which is the main road that leads to Kuta Beach. It's located in one of Kuta's most popular areas, and there is a huge variety of shops, restaurants, bars, and nightclubs in any direction. Just a two-minute walk from the hotel is Kuta Square, which is lined with boutiques, cafes, and surf stores. Kuta Beach, Waterbom Bali, Discovery Shopping Mall, and Legian Street are all less than a 10-minute walk from the hotel. The airport takes around 15 minutes to reach by car, but trips there can be longer due to the heavy traffic in the area.

Rooms

Affordable, compact rooms with bright decor plus air-conditioning, electric kettles, and flat-screen TVs

Rooms at the favehotel Kuta Square are compact, and start at just 182 square feet (17 square meters). They do feature large opening glass windows, which make the rooms feel a bit more spacious and let in plenty of fresh air and natural light. The rooms are affordably priced and mostly well maintained, though basic and utilitarian. Plain white walls, tan tiling, and dark gray curtains are contrasted by bright pink colored photo prints above the beds, which match the pink throw pillows. Furniture is limited to a small work table and chair, and there's only one tiny shelf and small rack for storing luggage. Standard amenities include air-conditioning, safes, electric kettles, and flat-screen TVs with both local and international channels. Superior Rooms and Standard Rooms look almost identical, but Superior Rooms are slightly larger and feature balconies and mini-fridges. Bathrooms are cramped, and feature a small vanity mirror and sink, soap dispensers, and rainfall shower stalls that lack shower curtains. We did spot some stained tiles in the bathrooms, and travelers concerned about traffic noise at night should ask for rooms on higher floors.

Features

A pool with an open-air deck, an affordable restaurant, and free Wi-Fi throughout

Facilities at the favehotel Kuta Square are limited, but sufficient for a hotel in this category. The pool is small given the hotel's size, but is a great way cool off from the Bali heat. There are both covered and open-air sections, the latter of which is adjoined by a pool deck with a few lounge chairs. The breakfast buffet, as well as lunch and dinner, are served in the affordably priced Lime Resto, where the menu consists of Western and Asian dishes. Service can be slow and the breakfast selection is limited. Parking is available in front of the hotel but there are very few spaces, and otherwise those with cars will need to use the hotel's valet. Wi-Fi is provided for free throughout the hotel.
