FRii Bali Echo Beach, Hotel

The hotel's contemporary decor reflects Canggu's artsy vibe and hipster reputation. The tall gray building sits on a quiet residential street, standing out with its colorful wood panel design. Interiors have industrial style decor, with aluminum hanging lights, exposed structures, and sanded-down wooden seating areas, while tiled floors and contemporary artwork add splashes of color. The property has unique architecture, with a narrow swimming pool enveloping the building. Sundecks and colorful bean bag chairs provide ideal spots to cool off and catch some sun. A rooftop restaurant and bar is the only real communal area, and its large decked area is a go-to for sipping cocktails and watching the sunset. The hotel has a tranquil, laid-back atmosphere, attracting mostly young travelers, backpackers, and surfers. 

The hotel is is situated in the coastal village of Canggu, just north of Seminyak. Although the property isn’t located on the beach, it’s a 10-minute walk to Echo Beach and Batu Bolong Beach — two of Bali’s best surf beaches. The area around the hotel is quiet and there's a shopping mart across the road, but numerous restaurants, evening bars, yoga studios, and surf shops are within easy walking distance. Canggu is known for its brunch culture, so there are plenty of organic cafes in the area. Pretty Poison -- a popular hangout with drinks, live music, and a skate park -- is a 15-minute walk from the hotel. Taman Segara Madu Water Park is a five-minute drive from the hotel, while Seminyak Square shopping mall is about 30 minutes by car or free hotel shuttle. The party town of Kuta is a 50-minute drive from the hotel, while the cultural hub of Ubud is around a hour away. Ngurah Rai International Airport is a 45-minute drive from the hotel. Keep in mind that traffic in southern Bali can be unpredictable and heavy for much of the day. 

Like the rest of the hotel, all 77 rooms have a modern industrial style with muted tones, aluminum pendant lights, whitewashed brick walls, and tiled floors. Furniture is minimal with sanded-down work desks and shelving, but there are no closets. Red bamboo drying racks and contemporary artwork help brighten up the spaces. Air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, tea/coffee facilities, safes, phones, and free bottled water come as standard. Top-floor rooms offer views of the ocean, while ground-floor rooms have glass doors that open out onto the swimming pool -- though these tend to be noisier. Larger Family Rooms are available, with additional single beds. White tiled bathrooms are simply designed with ceramic vessel sinks, and rainfall showers. Glass panels divide the main rooms and bathrooms, though blinds ensure privacy. All bathrooms include free basic toiletries. 

One of the hotel's highlights is its rooftop restaurant and bar. The vibe is casual, and the restaurant serves a variety of reasonably priced Western and local dishes, and there is a large decked area offering panoramic views of the ocean. A simple breakfast consisting of cereals, toast, and fruit is served daily, but this costs extra. Another highlight is the narrow heated swimming pool that surrounds the building, with sundecks and colorful bean bag chairs, plus a poolside bar serving beers and fresh cocktails. The hotel also has a full-service spa offering traditional Balinese massage treatments. Other services include a 24-hour front desk, laundry, computer station, bike rental, free parking, free Wi-Fi, and free daily shuttle service to Seminyak.
