Bottom Line

The 132-room Kuta Station Hotel is an upper-middle-range property with entertainment options galore, including a bowling alley, a large billiard room, and a long outdoor pool stretching between the hotel buildings. Most rooms overlook the pool and the tropical plants and trees skirting the sundeck lined with loungers; plus, all have private patios or balconies, and some have direct pool access. Though a bit bland and dated, rooms are clean and pleasant, equipped with modern comforts like flat-screen TVs, minibars, tea/coffee facilities, and free Wi-Fi. The hotel has two restaurants that serve local and international fare and offer live entertainment; one has a relaxed sports bar. Children are catered to with a kids’ pool and playground, plus larger Family Rooms are available, while business travelers will find two meeting rooms and a business center. The hotel is centrally located on a main road full of shops and restaurants, with the beach, a shopping mall, and a large water park a two-minute walk away. For something a bit more modern and stylish, travelers might want to consider the 100 Sunset Boutique Hotel instead.

Kuta Station Hotel

Scene

Family-oriented hotel with a train station theme and lovely grounds

True to its name, Kuta Station Hotel conjures up the ambiance of a train station with its industrial-chic interiors, like the high-ceilinged, steel-framed architecture of the lobby, which has several world clocks lining the wall and a locomotive emblem affixed behind the front desk. Cream-colored couches are lined up against a steel divider that separates the space from the adjoining restaurant, while potted tropical trees and plants provide verdant bursts of green to mostly neutral hues. The hotel’s adjoining Railway Restaurant is a large space filled with square tables flanked by black wicker chairs and not much in the form of decor; the vibe here is of a train station cafeteria with lots of seating and flat-screen TVs tuned to sports channels.

The property is surrounded by lovely green grounds, with paved paths meandering through grassy lawns dotted with trees, topiaries, water features, and pretty tropical plants. An array of facilities ranging from a bowling alley and billiard room, to meeting rooms and a business center, to a kids' pool and playground, draws a variety of guests including lots of families with children, as well as business travelers and couples.

The hotel is conveniently located a two-minute walk to the beach on a busy road lined with restaurants, cafes, bars, and shops, including the Discovery shopping mall, which is a three-minute walk down the street. Waterbom Bali, a popular water park, is just down the street as well (a two-minute walk), while Kuta Square can be reached in six minutes by foot. Seminyak, with its beach and Seminyak Square, is about a half-hour drive from the property, and Legian Beach is a 12-minute drive. The Ngurah Rai International Airport can be reached in under 15 minutes by car.

Rooms

Homey rooms are a bit bland and dated, but most come with private balconies or patios.

Rooms at the hotel are pleasant and traditionally decorated, but a bit bland, with contemporary furnishings and a soft color palette that includes white tiled floors, cream walls, and apricot accent walls that bring a bit of warmth to the spaces (some have gray accent walls instead). Abstract art on the walls adds pops of color, but overall the rooms aren't as modern or stylish as expected after touring the hotel's common areas. Teal and white striped bed runners, patterned curtains, and olive-colored armchairs are a bit dated as well, but the spaces are clean and homey.

All rooms have flat-screen TVs, minibars, tea- and coffee-making facilities, work desks, air-conditioning, electronic safes, and free Wi-Fi. Some have private balconies or patios furnished with wooden chairs and tables. Bathrooms are bland and in need of an update, but they are clean and outfitted with walk-in showers as well as wall-mounted hairdryers.

Features

Large outdoor pool and kids' pool, spa, two restaurants and bars, large bowling alley, billiard room, and more

The hotel has a lovely, long outdoor pool that stretches between the buildings, with loungers lining the surrounding sundeck as well as tables and chairs by the poolside bar. There’s also a small kids’ pool surrounded by a large sundeck with shaded seating, as well as an outdoor playground. There are two casual restaurants on-site: the Railway Restaurant -- which adjoins the lobby and has a relaxed atmosphere, live entertainment in the evenings, and a sports bar -- as well as the El Rustico restaurant and bar that serves Mexican and Italian dishes, and also provides live entertainment during dinner. There’s plenty of entertainment on-site, including a large bowling alley and a large billiard room.

The hotel’s spa offers Balinese spa treatments, including massages, facials, manicures, and pedicures. The fitness center is spacious, but could use more equipment and seems to be situated in a former event space. Business travelers will find two meeting rooms that are available for a variety of functions and can accommodate up to 120 people each. There’s a business center with two computers as well, plus Wi-Fi is free throughout.
