Le Grande Bali

Right at the very end of a cobblestone road flanked by tropical plants and the manicured lawns of the New Kuta Golf Course, a wooden structure marks the entrance to this upscale resort. The atmosphere is quiet and serene, and the lush grounds and low open lobby building make for a good first impression. The reception area itself has a few traditional Balinese elements, including lots of stone and wood accents, but decor is stylish and contemporary throughout, with minimalist furniture, bright throw pillows on dark couches, and clean lines. Rooms are housed in several four-story buildings with wooden verandas and white facades, and the grounds around them have a mix of manicured grass lawns and wilder tropical areas with bamboo trees, frangipani, and palm trees. The narrow space between buildings is taken up by the pool, which gets shade several hours a day. The atmosphere here is serene and relaxing, but some guests may find it too quiet. 

The hotel is located inside the New Kuta Golf Course, which is part of the Pecatu Indah Resort, a tourism complex home to a couple of other hotels and a water park. There is free shuttle service several times a day to New Kuta Beach, located a five-minute drive away, but there is nothing within walking distance of the hotel. While this location is convenient for golfers and those who plan to stay most of their time at the resort, travelers looking to explore the area may find it a little too out-of-the-way. One of the area’s main attractions, the Uluwatu Temple, is a 20-minute drive away, and both the town of Kuta and the Waterblow are about 35 minutes from the property. The airport can be reached in about 40 minutes.

The hotel has 190 units, all featuring balconies overlooking either the grounds or the golf course, and a few with direct access to the pool. Decor is contemporary and stylish throughout, with neutral tones, wooden furniture with clean lines, and laminate floors, but some may find it lacking in local charm, especially in Deluxe Rooms, which have bare walls and few ornaments. Standard in-room amenities are on par with other upscale hotels, and include free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, minibars, safes, and electric kettles. Suites have a few modern Balinese-inspired touches, including wooden platform beds and stone carvings, as well as kitchens equipped with cooktops, full fridges, and sinks. Bathrooms are clean and spacious, with rain showers and separate soaking tubs. Most rooms, however, are starting to show their age, with scuff marks on furniture, and finishes that are a little rough around the edges. 

The hotel’s pool is located in a narrow courtyard between two buildings. It is long enough for a swim and has a quiet vibe, but those expecting a sun trap may want to know that it gets shade several hours a day. Dining options are limited (especially considering the resort’s remote location), as there is only one restaurant and one bar on-site. Little Nan Yang restaurant serves a breakfast buffet and Chinese cuisine (but food gets mixed reviews), and the bar has a short snacks and drinks menu. The kids’ club offers daily activities and has a small outdoor playground, and there is a shallow pool for toddlers as well. Weddings and meetings can be held in a large hall for up to 280 guests, and the hotel offers catering and business services. Free shuttles service to the beach and a mall, free Wi-Fi, and free loaner bikes are all available.
