Maca Villas & Spa

The Maca Villas & Spa sits on a beautiful, lush compound in Seminyak. While just off of a main and busy road, the property itself offers a sense of respite and calm. The lobby is situated in an open-air rotunda with a rough, pink stone serving as the reception counter for a bit of a rustic touch, paired with contemporary wood chairs and benches. Cement paths cut through verdant gardens of tall, tropical plants, grass, and bamboo. The simply and elegantly designed Masé Kitchen and Wine Bar is a wood and brick room, enclosed and air-conditioned, but with large windows, which makes the space airy and light-filled. Walls are lined with shelves of wine bottles, and the restaurant offers an impressive selection of libations, in addition to in-house roasted coffee. Deeper into the Maca's compound is a curving outdoor pool with a rock wall overgrown with greenery skirting its edge as well as a selection of deep-cushioned lounge seating on a surrounding wooden sundeck. 

The Maca Villas & Spa is off of a quiet street in Seminyak, a chic, nightlife-focused area of Bali. While the hotel itself feels remote and restorative, it's just a short walk to the center of Seminyak, where there are a plenty of shops, restaurants, and nightclubs. The beach is about a 10-minute walk from the property, and the hotel has a partnership at the Mozaic Beach Club, allowing all guests free access during their stay. The hotel provides free periodic shuttles around town, stopping at Petitenget Beach, Seminyak Square, and downtown Seminyak. The hotel is about a 30-minute drive from the Ngurah Rai International Airport. 

The Maca Villas & Spa offers large one- and two-bedroom villas for guests. Like the common areas, the villas maintain a simple, natural elegance. Bedrooms and living rooms are separate, and both have sliding glass doors that open onto lovely private patios with personal plunge pools. Unheated, these pools can get a bit cold, but cushioned loungers on the patio offer a sunny place to warm up. In the villas, furniture is modern and clean-lined, with contemporary couches and reading chairs, small glass dining areas, and wood framed beds. Some guests complain of the mattress's excessive firmness. Bathrooms are large and luxurious with separate soaking tubs and walk-in rainfall showers as well as Black Tea and Honey bath products. All villas have flat-screen TVs in both bedrooms and living rooms, as well as iPod docks, minibars, and free Wi-Fi. 

The Masé Kitchen and Wine Bar is well regarded for food and wine, serving French-inspired fare with fresh, organic produce, as well as a great selection of wines. Guests can enjoy in-room dining as well. There's also an excellent cafe that sources award-winning coffee beans and roasts, grinds, and brews them on-site. The property has a spa room, but most spa treatments are done in-villa. The hotel is in the process of building a bigger facility. The communal pool is beautiful, skirted in lush greenery and surrounded by padded lounge chairs, and may be a few degrees warmer than the private plunge pools. Guests are treated to personal butlers as well, who offer concierge services and address individual requests. There is also a periodic shuttle around town which will take guests to the shopping areas as well as the beach. Other freebies include breakfast, afternoon tea, yoga classes, and bicycles for guests' use.
