Bottom Line

The Pullman Bali Legian Beach is an upscale 353-room resort located directly across the street from Legian Beach in Kuta. Rooms range in size and level of luxury, from standard Deluxe Rooms to Two-Bedroom Suites. Those facing the street can be noisy. Two large pools (one on the rooftop) with poolside bars and terrific sunset views, as well as a full-service spa, make this hotel a terrific choice for guests looking to relax. There’s also a 24-hour business center, a well-stocked gym, and meeting spaces available. A delicious and varied international buffet is available in one of the three on-site restaurants, but it costs extra.

Pullman Bali Legian Beach

Scene

This contemporary resort with Balinese accents attracts a range of guests.

One of the newer hotels in the Kuta Beach area, the Pullman Bali Legian Beach’s exterior looks much like a large-scale hotel that you could find just about anywhere. However, the property’s white five-story buildings do all have what appears to be thatched roofs inspired by the frangipani tree, a nod to the local surroundings that blends in well with the dominant modern architecture.

The grounds are an interesting amalgam of tropical and contemporary. Classic Balinese temple-style sculptures sit amid copious amounts of palm trees and greenery. The result is chic with a touch of local culture.

The lobby has exceptionally high wooden ceilings, large columns, and marble floors and walls. The effect is decidedly impressive, just from the layout and sheer size if nothing else. Multiple reception areas at the 24-hour front desk are a good start, though past guests have noted that the check-in/out process could be refined. The Pullman attracts families, couples, singles, and even business travelers.

Location

Across the street from Legian Beach

The hotel is located in Kuta just across from Legian Beach and a 20-minute drive from the airport. The roads immediately surrounding the hotel are well-maintained and there are many restaurants, shops, low-key nightclubs, beach bars, and minimarts in the vicinity. Other areas of Kuta, Legian, and Seminyak are a quick drive/cab ride away. Kuta Beach and Padang Padang Beach each take under 10 minutes by car, and Tuban and the small but elegant Seminyak Square shopping center are under 15 minutes away.

Rooms

Clean and contemporary rooms and suites with balconies

Simple and stylish, the rooms at the Pullman Bali Legian Beach range from Deluxe Rooms with one king-sized or two twin beds to spacious two-bedroom suites. All look new, modern, and clean. Wood floors, bright-orange accent walls, and floor-to-ceiling headboards flank comfy beds. All rooms have furnished balconies, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and minibars. As an added bonus, beach baskets and beach towels are available for guest use, and yoga mats and weights are available for in-room workouts. Guests are greeted in rooms with fruit baskets and Balinese souvenirs.

The bathrooms are spacious and have separate rainfall showers and deep bathtubs. Waffle robes, hairdryers, and nice toiletries (including sewing kits and nail files) are available for guest use; C.O. Bigelow products are included in pricier suites.

Note that Ocean View Rooms also overlook the beach road that runs in front of the hotel; accordingly the view is better but these rooms tend to be noisier, so those seeking quieter rooms may prefer rooms facing into the resort.

Features

Two pools with trendy bars, three restaurants, a spa, fitness center, transit room, and kids’ club

The Pullman has two lovely swimming pools. The Garden Pool is surrounded by trees and thus gets a good deal of shade. There is also a bar and restaurant nearby for grabbing snacks/drinks and it’s the more family-friendly of the two pools. The trendier rooftop infinity pool can get a little hot during the day due to direct sunlight, but offers terrific views and has a poolside bar.

The daily buffet served in the B'Z restaurant includes hot and cold items, but it costs extra. Lunch and dinner can be grabbed in the more relaxed The Deli @ Pullman. For an authentic Indonesian meal at a reasonable price for the area, the Sembilan is open for dinner. In addition to the pool bars, the mod indoor L Bar is also a nice place to grab a cocktail for those wishing to escape the tropical heat.

Though cheaper massages can be found on the beach or in area parlors, the on-site hotel spa -- with its sauna, steam room, whirlpool, salon, and five treatment rooms -- is an upscale, but expensive, spot for a massage or treatment.

There’s also a small but well-equipped gym with several pieces of cardio equipment, pulleys, and free weights. Lemon-infused ice water, fresh fruit, and towels are nice for refreshing during or after a workout. The fitness center also offers a variety of classes for guests including yoga by the pool, Tai Chi, and boxing. There are also fruit carving lessons in the gym, and while it may not be classified as a fitness activity, it's certainly entertaining.

For those with wee ones in tow, there is a kids’ club with a variety of activities, games, computers, DVDs, and origami. Business can be conducted in any of the three meeting rooms, which can be combined into a ballroom with lovely beach views.

The Chill Out space is a particularly nice touch. This transit room has computers with Internet access, as well as couches, and is great for guests who arrive early or have late flights but have to vacate their rooms.
