Royal Singosari Kuta

The Royal Singosari Kuta is an affordable and modern city hotel that doesn't have all that much personality. Even so, it can be a pleasant-enough home base for those looking to be in the heart of Kuta's action. The style throughout the hotel is modern, but unmemorable despite a few token Balinese accents here and there. The rooftop bar has the most character, with its laid-back ambience and almost peaceful atmosphere -- it feels far removed from the wild streets below. There are also stone statues and flowering frangipani trees around its perimeter. Given its few frills, a majority of the guests that stay here are young partygoers that want affordable rates near Kuta's nightlife, though Asian tour groups also frequently book out large portions of the hotel.

The Royal Singosari Kuta is located on busy Bakung Sari Street in downtown Kuta. The street is lined with convenience stores, restaurants, and bars. It tends to be busy and noisy, though most of central Kuta is as well. Most popular attractions in town are less than a 10-minute walk away, such Discovery Shopping Mall, Waterbom Bali, and the nightlife along Legian Street. Kuta Beach -- a five- to 10-minute walk from the hotel -- is a long white sand beach that's always crowded. The surf breaks found along this stretch of coastline are more forgiving and perfect for novice surfers, and there are plenty of vendors offering surf lessons and board rentals. The hotel is also convenient as a transit hotel, since it's only 15-minutes drive from the airport.

Rooms are spacious and have uncluttered, modern interiors featuring plain white walls, cream colored tiling, and dark wood-veneer furniture. Pops of turquoise, brown, and gray add a bit of style, though the effect is straightforward and simple. Rooms feature many amenities not always found in many affordably priced hotels in the area, such as flat-screen TVs, safes, electric kettles, mini-fridges, and free mineral water. Deluxe and Superior Rooms are similar in layout, but the Suites are a decent upgrade and feature hardwood floors, living rooms with comfy couches, roomier bathrooms, and more stylish interiors. Although the rooms are affordably priced, you do get what you pay for. In this case many of the rooms are tired, have peeling paint, smell musty, and don't have great views. Bathrooms in lower category rooms are cramped, with almost no vanity space, though they include shower/tub combos and basic toiletries.

There aren't too many features here, though what's on offer is handy for those that want to recover after a night out partying (or as a home base for recharging after a day at the beach). The the beach is only a five- to 10-minute walk away. The rooftop bar has panoramic views of Kuta and serves cocktails and snacks. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served at the streetside Padma Restaurant, which serves a mix of Western and Asian classics as well as cocktails. A weekly BBQ featuring live music also takes place in the cafe. There's a small lounge with couches and a few computers as well. The spa consists of just a few massage rooms and offers a range of massage and beauty treatments. The hotel has free underground parking , but spaces are limited. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel.
