Bottom Line

This mid-sized, mid-range hotel located in downtown Kuta -- just a five-minute walk from the beach -- has clean, modern rooms with free Wi-Fi, and most come with direct access to, or views of, a central swimming pool. The hotel also has a full-service spa with a variety of treatments and an on-site restaurant with 24-hour room service. Interconnected rooms and suites are also available, making this safe and central hotel a viable choice for families needing more space.  However, some may find the music annoying, and there's no gym or fitness center.

Oyster Hotel Review

The Bene Hotel

Scene

Quiet -- except for DJ music till early evening -- and friendly hotel

Popular with families and couples alike, the Bene has a relaxed vibe, and the central pool is the main hang-out spot. The entrance to the property is protected by a gate, beyond which stands the main building. The open-air lobby is traditional, with lots of dark-slatted wood on the walls and ceiling (and even in some of the elevators), but the adjacent lobby bar adds splashes of color to the space with whimsical chairs and banquettes in bright lime greens, oranges, and turquoises. Umbrellas are stored in a large vase for guests to grab should the weather take a turn for the rainy.

Though generally pretty quiet, the hotel can be plagued by some traffic noise. A DJ plays loud and poppy music in the later afternoons and early evenings by the restaurant/pool, making the atmosphere less conducive to napping or chilling out at that time.

Location

In busy Kuta, but away from the noise, and close to the beach

The Bene is located just down an alleyway, slightly away from the busiest area of Kuta but still within walking distance of the buzz and near plenty of shops, bars, and restaurants. It's just a five-minute stroll from Kuta Beach and is within a five-minute drive of Legian Beach and Tuban Beach. Kendra Gallery is also about a 15-minute walk, and the nightlife on Legian Street is about 10 minutes by foot.

Rooms

Clean and inviting rooms with modern amenities and balconies or direct pool access

Rooms at the Bene have dark-wood floors, wall-paneling, and furnishings. There aren't a lot of frills, but there are plentiful modern amenities including wall-mounted flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, and minibars. Electric kettles with tea and instant coffee and bottled water are supplied. Fruit baskets upon arrival are a nice touch. The comfy beds contrast with the rich decor thanks to white linens offset by brown and sienna-hued accent pillows/throws and dark-wood headboards.

Rooms have walk-in rainfall showers; however, the partially open glass partitions mean the rest of the bathroom can wet. Fortunately, there are wall-mounted hairdryers and slippers available, so guests can at least have dry hair and feet. Suites also have tubs.

All the rooms except the Family Suite and Royal Suite have pool views. Ground-floor rooms have direct pool access while rooms on the higher floors have private furnished balconies overlooking the pool courtyard area. Rooms located farther away from the restaurant are quieter; interconnecting rooms and suites are also available.

Features

Spa, on-site restaurant/bar with room service, and cooking classes at a nearby affiliated restaurant

The hotel has it's own small spa with two private treatment rooms -- Spa@The Bene (an extension branch of the larger Lagoon Spa Seminyak) -- offering massages, facials, reflexology, nail care, and even a kid's massage.

The 24-hour front desk makes it convenient for guests to check in or out at all hours, or get help with any ticketing or tourism needs. Wi-Fi is also free throughout the hotel. There is also 24-room service from the colorful and casual Plumeria restaurant, which is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This open-air space is located by the pool and serves a varied menu including Asian, European, and Western cuisine. A couple times per week there are also featured themes such as the Italian Night Buffet and a barbecue. Live music is also occasionally on the menu.

For those who'd like to take home some food-preparation skills as a souvenir, the hotel also offers a three-hour Balinese cooking class (for an additional but reasonable fee) at a nearby affiliated seafood restaurant, complete with transportation.
