Bottom Line

The Lokha Legian is an mid-range hotel located in northern Kuta, a five-minute walk from Legian Beach and a 10-minute walk to Kuta's most popular nightclubs. This area of Legian is a little less wild and congested than southern Legian, and still within walking distance of most attractions in Kuta. The 49-room property is intimate and the atmosphere is laid back and family friendly. Facilities include two restaurants and bars, a pool surrounded by tropical greenery, and a basic spa. Rooms are contemporary, but plain, and feature balconies, flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, mini-fridges, and free Wi-Fi. Alternatively, The Camakila Legian is slightly more expensive, but features direct beach access, stunning grounds, and more complete facilities.

The Lokha Legian Resort & Spa

Scene

Small hotel that's packed with features and has a family-friendly vibe

Lokha Legian is a simple and small hotel that features a combination of Balinese aesthetics and reasonably modern stylings. The atmosphere is laid back and family friendly. The spacious main pool is in the middle of the compound and is surrounded by flowering frangipani trees. During our visit, it was often packed with kids playing in the shallow kiddie pool and adults sipping cocktails at the swim-up bar. The hotel's entrance is lined with long green vines and carved stone statues with brightly colored decorative umbrellas, while the Balinese touches extend inside as well (check the wood carvings and stone details in the lobby for proof). Decor in the restaurants is generically modern, though the interiors are starting to look a little less than fresh. Overall, this is a relatively well-liked place for travelers looking to be within striking distance of the beach who don't prize style over substance.

Location

Amid shops, restaurants, and bars, a five-minute walk to Legian Beach

Lokha Legian is located in northern Kuta, along Padma Street, and just a five-minute walk from Legian Beach. This stretch of sand is quieter and more laid back than neighboring Kuta Beach, but still offers the same picturesque white sands and is known for its great surf. There are plenty of vendors offering surf lessons and board rentals along the beach. Closer to the hotel, the area is highly developed and there's an abundance of shopping, dining, and nightlife options. However, it isn't as congested or loud as other parts of Kuta, as there are less nightclubs nearby, though popular spots such as Eikon and Skygarden are a only a 10-minute walk from the hotel. Beachwalk Shopping Mall is a 15-minute walk away and Waterbom Park and the airport take around 25 minutes to reach by car.

Rooms

Spacious rooms featuring free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, and balconies or terraces

Rooms at the Lokha Legian are spacious and interiors are fairly plain, but with a hint of traditional Balinese aesthetics. The floors are covered in light concrete tiling and the walls are plain white, with just a few pieces of abstract Balinese art. The furniture throughout is made of solid wood and is uniformly dark. Bed runners and throw pillows feature brown and orange accents. All rooms but Family Rooms have pool views and balconies or terraces. The Family Rooms face the street and their balconies are tiny. Standard features include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, safes, kettles, hairdryers, work desks, and roomy wardrobes. Super Deluxe Rooms are located on the ground level and have direct pool access, spacious terraces, and larger bathtubs. Bathrooms are uncluttered and tiled in light colored marble with black terrazzo feature work throughout. They include shower/tub combos and toiletries.

A pool with a swim-up bar, small spa, Salato Pizzeria, and Adiyoga Restaurant

Facilities at the Lokha Legian include two restaurants and bars, a small spa, and a pool that's situated in the center of the property and is the hub of activity throughout the day. The pool is surrounded by tropical greenery and there are plenty of lounge-chairs laid out around it. There are both a shallow kids' pool and a larger lap-size pool with a swim-up bar. A breakfast buffet is included in most room rates, and the selection includes pastries, fresh fruit, and an egg station. Breakfast is served in the spacious Adiyoga Restaurant and Bar, which is also open for lunch and dinner. The menu is reasonably priced and consists of Asian and Western dishes. The Salato Pizzeria features street-side seating and serves both pizzas and other Italian favorites. The spa facilities at Lokha Legian are simple -- treatment rooms include a couples massage gazebo that overlooks the pool, and a single bed massage room. The latter looked a little tired, smelled musty, and had no windows. Parking is available, but limited, and Wi-Fi is free throughout.
