Bottom Line

This upscale bed and breakfast is housed within a 1902 English Tudor mansion, set on 45 acres outside of Baltimore. Eleven ornately decorated guest rooms feature luxurious amenities, such as two-person jetted tubs, fireplaces, heated bathroom floors, and other modern perks. Prices are quite reasonable (with lower rates in the winter), especially given the property’s elegant formal gardens, outdoor pool, and free made-to-order breakfasts.

Gramercy Mansion

Scene

Upscale elegance with historic charm

Built in 1902 by Mary Cassatt’s brother for his daughter (who never lived in the mansion), the Gramercy was purchased by its current owners in 1985. They renovated and rented the first room in 1986, and over the next 12 years restored the mansion to its current state. On the walls hang medieval-looking tapestries, ornately framed paintings of country scenes, and classic reproductions of turn-of-the-century artwork. The mansion is loaded with antiques, oriental rugs, four-poster canopy beds, crystal chandeliers, and lots of living plants, ferns, and flowers. The 45-acre grounds include over an acre of beautifully manicured gardens.

Typical guests are couples; this is a great romantic getaway, and there are over 100 weddings performed here a year. Families are also welcome, and there are kid-friendly perks like a basketball hoop, playground, and trampoline. A Carriage House is also available for corporate meetings, weddings, and events. Breakfast is served in a large glass-enclosed dining room (or room service is also available), and several sitting rooms throughout the mansion offer quiet places to ponder.
