Bottom Line

In the heart of Sukhumvit, this three-pearl hotel attracts Japanese business travelers needing easy access to the BTS station nearby factories. There are 151 rooms and suites, the latter of which have one or two bedrooms along with decent kitchens equipped with washing machines. Facilities include a restaurant with a buffet breakfast that starts early in the morning along with a small outdoor pool, a well-equipped fitness center, and six meeting rooms, the largest of which can accommodate 200 guests. While the location is great and the facilities are reasonable, note that six of the eight floors are smoking floors, which might be a deal breaker for smoke-sensitive guests, and there's not much for kids (beyond discounted breakfast rates). Centre Point Pratunam Hotel might be a better option for families, as it offers free breakfast and a play room for kids.

Arize Hotel Sukhumvit

Scene

Three-pearl business hotel with purple-and-gray interiors; popular with Japanese business travelers and tourists

Arize Hotel is an upper-middle-range business hotel that's popular with Japanese travelers needing easy access to nearby industrial areas where many Japanese-owned factories are located. The hotel itself is in a simple eight-story gray building fronted by a large parking lot and flanked with greenery. Inside, common areas are dark and modern, with ample use of purple, silver, and gray in the lighting and plush furnishings. Elevators lead up to the rooms, and there's a pool area and a fitness center off to one side. On the other side of the lobby is a lounge restaurant with red seats that add pops of color and big windows that let in a fair bit of light.

Location

Central Sukhumvit location, near entertainment and shopping and a short walk from the BTS Station

Arize Hotel is located just off of Soi Ari in Sukhumvit, a two-minute walk from the main road and a five-minute walk from the Phrom Phong BTS station. This area is busy day and night, with tons of bars, mini-marts, restaurants, and massage parlors of both the therapeutic and salubrious variety. It's easy enough to get to area tourist attractions -- Jim Thompson House takes about a half-hour to access by skytrain (with a bit of walking at the end); the Royal Palace takes more or less the same amount of time to reach by taxi; Wat Arun is about a 35-minute taxi ride; and Suvarnabhumi Airport and Don Mueang Airport are each around 45 minutes to an hour away from the hotel, depending on traffic -- give yourself 90 minutes during rush hour, just to be safe.

Rooms

Contemporary rooms with sleek amenities plus Suites with balconies and washing machines

This hotel offers smallish Superior and Deluxe Rooms as well as One- and Two-Bedroom Suites spread out over eight floors. Six of the floors have smoking rooms and two of the floors are non-smoking. Decor is identical across rooms, with lots of soft recessed lighting, light-wood floors and wall paneling, dark-gray accent panels, and rich furnishings in hues of maroon and royal purple. All units have kettles, minibars (or full fridges in Deluxe Rooms and above), safes, flat-screen TVs with cable, and free Wi-Fi. Suites add balconies and, of course, have separate bedrooms and living rooms. Suites also come with kitchenettes with two-burner stoves and microwaves. Two-Bedroom Suites have dishwashers. Bathrooms all have shower/tub combos or walk-in showers, while Two-Bedroom Suites have two bathrooms, with one of each. Views are mostly of the parking lot and immediate neighborhood.

Features

Shaded outdoor lap pool, decent fitness center, six meeting and event spaces, and restaurant with room service

Amenities are mostly geared to suit the needs of business travelers. There's a narrow outdoor swimming pool that has four sun beds, but doesn't actually get much sun -- and the pool is just long enough to swim a few laps. However, it can get a bit noisy from nearby street sounds and construction. There's also a small fitness center near the pool with cardio and weight-training machines, plus free weights. The restaurant serves Thai and international fare for all three meals, and room service is also available, but it's not 24 hours. The breakfast buffet starts early in the morning, with discounts available for children. Business facilities feature six meeting rooms, including a large hall that can seat 200 people theater-style. There's also a business center and free hotel-wide Wi-Fi, as well as plenty of free on-site parking in the hotel's surface lot.
