Bottom Line

A simple value hotel in Bangkok's shopping district, the 126-room Citin Pratunam isn't the glossiest place to stay in Bangkok and could do with a lick of paint and some new furniture, but it's minutes away from the Platinum Mall and just around the corner from Pratunam Market, one of Bangkok's biggest clothing markets. While the immediate area doesn't offer much in the way of attractions, the hotel provides a free tuk tuk service to the closest metro/skytrain station. Rooms are basic but comfortable, and the hotel also has a small spa and gym. Guests pick this hotel for its proximity to shopping, as well as perks like free massages and free Wi-Fi.

Oyster Hotel Review

Citin Pratunam Hotel by Compass Hospitality

Scene

This simple hotel, popular with tour groups and shoppers, has standard, basic decor -- but some perks.

The Citin Pratunam Hotel is a standard modern tower in a busy neighborhood; the lobby is a calm, but basic, respite from the buzz outdoors. The lobby looks more like a hostel than a hotel, but it's clean and has a fresh lime-green color scheme. It has a tourist information center where guests can book sightseeing tours and organize airport transfers. There's not much in the way of public space -- most guests take to the streets to explore the nearby cafes and sample the street food. The basic nature of the hotel is reinforced by its very simple and minimalist restaurant, which is just a room with green tables and chairs in it, and very little else. The spa area is slightly livelier, with traditional massage beds and a sauna. As a budget option, the hotel attracts a casual crowd that wants to be near the shopping. With the connecting rooms being a great bargain for groups, there are a lot of families and tour groups around, as well.

Location

Next door to Pratunam Market and Platinum Mall, in an ideal shopping location

The Citin Pratunam Hotel is located in a narrow alleyway off a congested, frenetic street that buzzes with the sound of scooters and hawkers at all hours, especially in the evenings. The renowned Pratunam Market is just around the corner, and the Platinum Mall is only slightly further, and there's a 7-Eleven next door for purchasing essentials. Siam Paragon Mall and Siam Square are also both nearby; the sprawling and varied Central World Mall is about 10 minutes away by bus. Sightseeing requires a longer trip; the iconic Grand Palace is about 30 minutes away on the bus. Wat Arun, locally known as Wat Chaeng, is situated on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River and is a 30-minute taxi or tuk tuk ride away. The hotel provides a free tuk tuk service to and from the closest metro and skytrain stations from morning to evening.

Rooms

Large, air-conditioned rooms with mid-level chain-style decor and mediocre city views

Rooms at the Citin Pratunam Hotel are modern and comfortable, and range in size, accommodating everyone from solo travelers to families and groups. Rooms are decorated with blonde wood furniture in a style inspired by mid-range chain hotels: comfortable, bland, and unadventurous. All rooms have minibars and free bottled water, coffeemakers, air-conditioning, and sitting areas. Higher-tier rooms have glassed-in showers and bathtubs, while Standard Rooms only have small showers. Larger rooms have robes and slippers. All bathrooms have white tiling with beige mosaics around the showers, and include toiletries. Guests have complained about street noise and uninspired views of the nearby concrete buildings that are less than picture-perfect. All rooms have free Wi-Fi or LAN connections.

Features

Vegetarian restaurant with free breakfast, small spa with sauna and gym, free foot massages, and an internet corner

There's a small fitness center at the Citin Pratunam Hotel, with a basic set of equipment. The spa area is pleasant enough, with separate treatment rooms that are decorated in a calming bamboo style wallpaper. The spa sells therapeutic traditional balms which are popular with guests. It also has an attached sauna and free foot massages are on offer. The small vegetarian restaurant is bright but bland in its decor, and rarely busy, but a free breakfast is served here daily. There's an internet corner in the lobby, with several computers for guests to use, and airport transfers can be arranged upon request. A free 30-minute foot massage is also offered to guests.
